What a wonderful faculty to possess--the ability to remember. Many times we say I remember quite well. The question is, what does one remember? School years have been full of many ex- periences, some pleasant, some unpleasant. Yet all will recall their high school with pleasure. Then too, t.he farther we get from graduation date we will recall some events and look at them with a different point of view. Immediately after graduation we look at high school as a place where there was a lot of fun. We tell triumphantly how we have gotten by with lesson preparations. How we slighted this and that. The time spent in practice for plays or some program will bring back many pleasant memories. AS we gIOW older we will recall the many conversations with the teacher The suggestions given us at that time we thought rather trite Now we fully realize how true were their words Memories will bring us back to school and will also make us want our community to have the best school there is E O Muncie Superintendent Dale Carnegie in listing six ways to make people like you gives his most important piece of advice in his first suggestion Become genuinely interested in other people Too many people spend a life time trying to get people interested in them trying to rmpress others with their own im portance their own worth Many many examples and illustrations from real life could be given in which supposedly inaccessible or unapproachable men in business and professions have bedome interested in the other fellow when this fellow first showed an interest in them or their hobby But we foolishly and selfrshly go on trying to sell ourselves to others Experience has proved that we can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than we can in two years by trying to get other people interested in us Young people often make the mistake of adopting this selfish outlook on life They are too interested in themselves and their own problems to be able to see the fallacy of their conception of life If you want to live a happy and sane life develop a genuine interest in others and let them know of your interest It is the individual who is not interested in his fellow men who has the greatest difficulties in life and provides the greatest injury to others Not long ago I heard a well merited remark about a young lady who is extremely popular and well liked by all who know her The observation was made that seldom does one see a person of her age who has so much thought for others who is so genuinely interested in others and who is always trying to do something worthwhile for others What a fine life' Wouldn t it be fme for all of us individually wouldn t it be invaluable to our school and to our community if all our young people could put aside their selfishness and adopt this slogan for their guidance Become genuinely interested in other people C K Salm Principal 7 ' r gp . . . .
