Many of us are confronted with the que stion--Do I dare to be different? Sometimes we do not do the things we want to do because of being different, If we are too unlike the rest of the gang we miss out on something to talk about, something to do, and often times a feeling of belonging. Yet daring to be different is what makes you an individ- ual. What a dull world this would be if all wore the same clothes, had the same friends and the same opinions. Often times those who have dared to be different have saved the gang. Too many follow the crowd, take the same subjects as others, vote the same way on band uniforms, etc. Pro- gress has been made because people dared to be different. Remember you can't follow your crowd through life. So, when the time comes to step off the beaten path, go ahead, take the step. Learning to be an individual is one of the first steps in growing up. E. O. Muncie, Superintendent A few days ago 'The Thought For Today' on your senior home room board read: We are made for cooperation, like feet, like hands, like the rows of upper and lower teeth. To act against one another then is contrary to nature. This thought made an impression on my mind and stuck there. It seems to me that this is one of the biggest lessons that any of us can learn in school, or elsewhere. We don't have too much difficulty in seeing that it takes cooperation in a high degree to be successful in any form of athletics. We can see that the various members and organs of our body must cooperate, else we are not a well coordinated individ- ual, we are a sick person. But how often we fail to apply this to our relations with others, to our everyday contacts with our fellow students and with our fellowmen outside of school. It takes this same kind of cooperation in our businesses and in our professions if we are to render the kind of service to others for which we were brought into this world. We fail to succeed in our chosen line of endeavor many times simply because we chose to follow the path of selfishness and disregard for the rights and interests of others. He who will succeed let him forget himself and let him lose himself in his work and in his con- sideration for others. EMERY O.
