A TIME FOR US MAHISCO 1970 Madison High School Madison, Florida Foreword A time for us someday there’ll be When chains are torn by courage born from a love that's free, A time when dreams so long denied can flourish As we unveil the love we now must hide. A time for us at last to see A life worthwhile for you and me, And with our love through tears and thorns We will endure as we pass surely through every storm. A time for us someday there'll be a new world A world of shining hope for you and me. A TIME FOR US Larry Kusik and Eddie Synder copyright 1968 2 Sports Activities 3 Advertisements 5 6 Dedication Now as we stand on the threshold of a new beginning, we can look back with an open mind and realize how much you have meant to us. When we needed help, you gave us just enough push to start us on our way. When we were happy, you were always there to add a little of your subtle humor. When we were sad, you were always ready to listen to our problems. Because of all the things we will remember about you, we want to leave something to remind you of us. 7 To you, Mrs. Faught. we dedicate Mahisco 1970. 10 II ANNUAL STAFF SUSAN REAMS Business Manager Fellow students. This is 1970 - the beginning and ending of a decade and the year of the Mahisco 1970. A TIME FOR US is presented to you by the Mahisco staff as a tribute to our Alma Mater. We hope that it will portray the spirit of Madison High School and that you will cherish it through the years. We want you to realize that these years at M.H.S. have been times to remember - your times, our times - A TIME FOR US Lou Sirmon Editor CHERYL STEPHENS Jr. Editor - Photographer 12 KAREN FAUGHT Art - Dedication MRS. The contribution you have made as a student at this school will be long remembered. Those of us who will continue to work with other students after you have gone will maintain a keen interest in your achievements beyond high school. You will find a great challenge, rich opportunity and solemn responsibility in your new endeavors. It is my hope that you will be able to meet each one with confidence, courage and conviction. May each new experience that is yours be an enrichment to a long, happy and prosperous life. Griffin Bishop Superintendent 16 Dear Seniors: An old proverb speaks of the father eating sour grapes and the children’s teeth being set on edge. The rallying cry of your generation echos this ancient saying and my generation is being tried by it. and rightly so, for it ever remains the duty of each new generation to challenge the old in an attempt to find itself and values that the times cannot change. My brief association with you has convinced me that you will be a very involved group in years to come. This is the spirit of the true American. This is the spirit you need for you will find yourselves being tried by the very standards you propose today. My thanks go out to you for a rewarding and challenging year. I wish the greatest success to you all. Sincerely. 17 Joseph R. Worden B. A. at University of Fla. Algebra I, II and Math II MR. GEORGE SHAW M. The 1969 Football Season was disappoint- ing for Madison High. The young, inexperi- enced team fought valiantly but didn't win. Those young men will win eventually despite the teams dismal record. They worked, suf- fered, bled, lost, and learned. They fought against overwhelming odds and criticisms and stayed. We knew it would be a rebuilding year with only two lettermen, Roy Tuten and Lester Wetherington, returning. This lack of experience plus a definite height disadvantage and mental letdowns have helped determine our record to now. Except for some mental lapses these boys gave all they could at practice and at games. I’m proud of them, and you should be proud of them, also, because these basketball players make up our basketball team. 152 DEWEY WILLIAMS RONNIE HART 153 Junior Varsity STANDING: Dub Wyche, Nathaniel Williams, Frank Mercer, Joe Girven, Gerald Webb, Robert Aikens, John Chamberlain, Sammy Hicks, Bob Sherrod, Tommy Webb, Robbie Sutton. KNEELING: Coach Brooks Barber Any success that the Junior Varsity Basketball team has had this year can be attributed to hard work and teamwork on the part of the players. This team was made up of a group of boys who were willing to work hard to be winners. Any deficiencies that we had concerning size, speed, and experience, w ere overcome by the excellent attitude of the entire team. We had hustle, determination, courage, and a lot of pride. It has been a pleasure to have been associated with this group of outstanding young men.
