MAHISCO I Alma Mater On the city's western border, Reared against the sky, Proudly stands our Alma Mater, As the years go by. Forward, ever, be our watchword, Conquer and prevail. Hail to thee, our Alma Mater, Madison School, all hail. Foreword In your hands you hold a year at Madison High School. This MAHISCO portrays life as it was experienced at our school in 1962-63. Each time you open this book we hope you relive this year . . . Hear the building come alive with the chatter of the students and see their bright faces as they greet their friends . . . Feel the loyalty of the fans for the Red Devils and revel in the many honors M.H.S. has received this year. Let us take you by the hand and lead you on a memory tour of the past year at Madison High School. This is the March of Time! 3 FREDDY HUGHES Editor-in-Chief 1963 Mahisco This MAHISCO is yours. May we reach the goal to which you have directed us; May we continue to hold the high values which you have taught us; May we become the men and women of tomorrow of which you will be proud. For your devotion and endless efforts we dedicate this 1963 MAHISCO to you: MRS. LOUISE BROWNING twn . . . that school Marm look personified. Mrs. B. in teaching regalia and Socratic facial expression . . . Climbing the professional ladder, Mrs. B. is shown here gowned and capped for the reception of her Master of Arts degree from Florida State University, August, 1954. Out of the class room for 14 years, she is back having provided for four income tax deductions (2 daughters and 2 sons.) 7 00 Administration Senior Class of 1963 Madison High School Madison, Florida Dear Seniors: My congratulations and sincere wishes to a fine group of young men and women, the Senior Class of 1963. It is my hope and desire that you will always enjoy success and happiness in your future endeavors. It is my further hope that you will cherish with each passing year the good years spent at Madison High. Our interest in you will continue, and we shall observe with pride the contribution that each of you shall make in the future to this great land of ours. Griffin Bishop Superintendent Senior Class of 1963 Madison High School Madison, Florida Dear Seniors: The game of life requires all one’s energy to play it at one’s best. The present gives us the only chance we have for doing. To use it in futile grief or regret is to leave something worth while undone. Live your life each day as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance toward the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point. Climb slowly, steadily, enjoying each passing mo- ment; and the view from the summit will serve as a fitting climax for the journey. Myrus Stokes Principal JMU III Hi! m Faculty MR. If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost; For out in the world you’ll find Success begins with a fellow’s will; It’s all in a state of mind. For many a game is lost Ere even a play is run, And many a coward fails Ere even his work is begun. Think big and your deeds will grow, Think small and you will fall behind; Think that you can and you will; It’s all in a state of mind. If you think you are out-classed, you are; You’ve got to think high to rise; You’ve got to be sure of yourself before You can ever win a prize. Life’s battles don’t always go To the stronger or faster man, But sooner or later, the man who wins Is the fellow who thinks he can. Walter D. This club is sponsored and is in conjunction with the Rotary Club. Its objectives are: 1. To recognize and develop constructive leadership and personal integrity. 2. To build respect for the rights of others. 3. To foster better international relations. Our first project is just beginning to get moving. We are making plans now to sponsor an exchange student from abroad next year. For the first year in existence, we have already taken big steps to become one of the leading clubs in our school. Let’s Twist On April 19, 1962, about 300 dancers gathered in the Madison High School gym for the 1962 Junior-Senior Prom. The girls in their beautiful formals and the gentlemen in their for- mal attire danced to the music of the Starlighters. The theme of Cinderella's Ball was car- ried out in silver and blue. Giant columns and a pool highlighted the beautifully decorated gym. The ceiling was lowered with crepe paper to add realism to our Cinderella Ball. The Magic Hour draws near.
