RUBY ULM Librarian One sunny morning twelve years ago, a very excited group of boys and girls were brought to school by their mothers to be given their first glance into the field of knowl- edge. On this day, twelve long years of school and hard work began. The first few years were really great because all that we did was new and exciting, but after the second grade they moved us to the big important building! There, we were supposed to be young ladies and gentlemen, but that idea was soon forgotten in the happy rush to be tulips in the May Fete. In the sixth grade, we started counting the days until graduation. We were PC's then and really enjoyed the extra attention we were getting. Also, the election of King and Queen for the May Fete was an important event that year. Tommy Hudson and Anne Brush were the lucky ones elected, with Elizabeth Smith and Billy Rutherford in second place. The next year brought an entirely new change for us. We were in high school, at last; but with all the teachers, bells, and new faces, we wondered if we'd ever find our way around. We learned fast, and by the end of the year were all set. The eighth grade passed by without any fuss, and at last came Senior High and the ninth grade! That year we began participating in sports and having dances. We also enlarged our class with students from Cherry Lake, which made us even prouder. The tenth grade came and then finally the eleventh grade! This year brought new Juniors from Pinetta and Lee and was packed with selling magazines, presenting our play, Class Ring, and getting our own class rings, which we had waited for so long. Last, but not least, came our Prom, which was the best ever given, naturally . . . Now we've finally reached our goal - we are Seniors. We have struggled and worked hard to achieve this honor and know in our hearts that it was well worth all the work. First, to the Juniors, we leave the right and responsibilities to be Seniors. To the faculty we leave our sincere thanks for the help and consideration given us through the past years at M. H. S. We will never forget your unceasing efforts to co-operate with us and know that the many lessons learn- ed will linger always. Being of sound mind and body, we now leave to the following people what little we have left to leave: I, Johnny Plant, leave my ability in athletics and be a member of the Beta Club at the same time to Jim Bunting. I, Louise Brown, leave my ability to make cherry pies to those girls who can't cook. I, James Everett, leave my ability to get along with the teachers to Elmer Johnson - he needs it! I, JoAnn Townsend, leave all my unknown abilities to anyone who can find them. I, Sandy Hardee, leave my extra clean notebook paper to Jack Davis. Lookout, Texas! I, Billie West, leave my title of Miss M. H. S. to any girl who thinks that she can stand the strain of elections. I, Linda Harris, leave my seat in detention hall to anyone dumb enough to get caught skipping school. I, Helen Littleton, leave my taxi service” to anyone who enjoys running out of gas all the time. I, June Ragans, leave my ability to skip school once a week to Penny Day. I, Helen Hutto, leave to let the good times roll. I, Danice Hiers, leave singing my theme song - Never Look Back. The band is organized to meet the musical needs and interests of Madison High School students. The Senior Band presents its annual Christmas and Spring Concerts, in addi- tion to participation in school and community events. With- in this band is a pep band which plays at home basketball games and a newly organized dance band. In addition to the Senior Band, the school can boast a Junior High Band which acts as a training band for the Senior Band. The members of the Junior High Band receive train- ing in playing and marching so they can become strong and useful members of the Senior Band. One of the highlights of the year was the combined Junior and Senior Bands in the Homecoming Parade. %Cee Sarah Taylor, Lounette Hammock, Linda Gail Harris, Sandra Abbot, Judy Allen, Mary Jean Franklin, Mr. Fansler, Director; June Drew, Joyce Jones, Nancy Hughey, Carolyn Williams, Emogene Singletary, Sue Lamb, Ruthie Hawkins, SECOND - Rebecca Buchanan, Betty Ann Wood, Sherrell Raker, John Dean Blair, Jimmy Stokes, Char- les Armstrong, Gene McClamma, Allen Wood, Jim Bunting, Charles Wells, Butch Fisher, Joan Drew, Margaret Kelly, Patricia Ezell, Bonnie Bell. In spite of a few bad breaks at the end of the season, we finished with a record of five wins and three losses. All in all, it has been a year marked by good sportsmanship, fine team spirit, and happy memories for all concerned. In closing we Seniors leave this Prayer of a Sportsman. ” Dear Lord, in the battle that goes on through life, I ask but a field that is fair.
