I hope it will prove to be an accurate and colorful picture of our school life in Madison High School, and also, may it hold for your future, treasured memories of 1958. This yea your Staff has selected for a theme, “Time.” Out of the mad rush we have experienced, the deadlines we missed, and the “eternities” that we endured trying to finish copy sheets, we feel a little closer to “Time. And now, after the completion of this publication, we offer this advice: Stu- dents, “May you this life improve, not mourn for errors past; and live this short, revolving day as if it were your last.” Although we have worked many long hours for this pro- duction, flunked a few courses, and let our social life “go to pot,” the finished book isn’t our most important goal. Our paramount aim is your satisfaction, and with this message, I extend to you my fervent hope that you enjoy your 1958 Mahisco. You have given to us the Spirit of Madison High School, and because of you. this Spirit will never die. Long after we, the students of 1958, have gone and younger ones have come to take our place, this same spirit will prevail because of your inexhaustible patience and love for the students of our Alma Mater. Your interest in us, and your magnificent personality have made you our favorite. To you, who have given so much to our school and to us, we pay this tribute. ADMINISTRATION ‘Within these walls are made the deliberationsithat God was kind wfteft ftan the ability to dream. ITe still in remembering that man must have a means for realizing his dreams. So, he gave us time. These dreams are turned into reality as the clock is set and the hands move silently around its dial. MR. GRIFFIN BISHOP Superintendent Senior Class of 1957 Madison High School Madison, Florida Dear Seniors: 1 offer hearty congratulations to each of you upon gradu- ation from Madison High School. In this dav of Explorers, Sputniks, talk of space travel, and other things that leave us with a feeling of bewilderment, I challenge you to these three tasks: 1. Have faith in yourself, in the knowledge and ex- perience that you have and can secure in the years ahead. 2. Have faith in your Fellow Man. your neighbors, friends, and associates. 3. Have faith in Almighty God. School people, parents and friends are justly proud of the progress you have made. Keep up the good work. MR. BURCH CORNELIUS Principal A MESSAGE TO SENIORS Dear Seniors: May I offer you congratulations upon your greatest accomplish- ment to date — the graduation from high school. This is not an accomplishment in that you have reached a goal or acquired success. But it is an accomplishment because you have now laid the founda- tion, constructed the framework, upon which you can in future years build your life. Your degree of success will depend on your ability, based on this foundation, to make the right decisions and choices in the oppor- tunities that you encounter, and your determination, based on this framework, to apply your efforts completely to the construction of an edifice of which you will be proud. Best wishes for your future years, and I hope that the days spent at M.H.S. have furnished the groundwork for a long and successful life. Sincerely, V1HS. OPAL ARGENBRIGHT Social Studies MRS. Remember the day you first arrived: How little you seemed and shy: The years have passed swiftly and here you are Saying to MHS a last ‘‘goodbye.” Is it a dream that you were here. Or that in reality you stand Eager to take that final step Eager to take the future’s hand? There is one more thought before you go, One more word to say; You owe a debt to your teachers You can never hope to pay. It is no dream, your life here is through, The life that held you close for years. But, with you goes a spirit that Will bring a smile through parting tears. So, give thanks to God for a school like this That gave you a wonderful start: We’ll remember your standards, and forever Keep the “M” impressed on your heart. Madison was elected host for this convention at a similar meeting last year, when a group of dele- gates campaigned for this position. Many of the delegates attended the Madison vs. Florida Hi foot- ball game in Tallahassee, and were housed with local citizens Friday night. Upon registration, all dele- gates and sponsors received souvenir packages of favors and materials furnished by local firms. The district which convened in our city is the largest in the state, and includes fifteen widely-spread Northwest Florida counties. Although the Bed Devils did not have a com- pleted successful season they nevertheless were determined not to give up and they still upheld the fine traditions of sportsmanship for which Madison High School is known. Under the guidance of Coach Brown. Coach Grahen. and Coach Peacock, the Bed Devils played fine football even in defeat. The de- termination of the 1957 football players will serve for many years as a reminder of lessons learned in football, the sport of life on a small scale. On behalf of Madison High School, we, the Annual Staff, salute you hoys for your fine spirit and determination. RED DEVIL SCHEDULE Madison 0 Santa Ft 0 Madiaon 21 P. K. Guard As the basketball season opened, the prospects looked bright for the Red Devils, even though only one letterman from last year’s team was on hand. Scheduling five games before Christ- mas, the Devils defeated Florida High. Jasper, and Greenville, losing to Jennings and Perry. After the holidays. ”01' devil flu” joined the squad, and Coach Brown had a hard time fielding a team. After defeating Greenville, the Red Devils lost to Salem, and team morale was definitely at low tide. No one expected them to beat Monticello, hut thev did, and the team seemed ready to roll. The Perry Bulldogs had other ideas, however, and stopped the Devils in a thriller, 69-54. This was a close one up to the last quarter when the Devils apparently ran out of gas. The team then traveled to Tallahassee and lost to Florida High. 48-58. This was definitely the low point of the season. As we go to press, the Red Devils have bounced back, winning three in a row, taking Live Oak 48-36, Jasper 71-36. Salem 44-32, and they seem to be reaching their peak as tournament time rolls around.
