Working for the interest of your group and all of the children of our great county, has been, and is, a wonderful experience for me. I sincerely hope your experience as a student through the years in Madison Schools has been equally rewarding. My wish for each of you is happiness, prosperity and every success in future undertakings in the days and years ahead. GREETINGS: The one and only high school diploma of your career is sched- uled to reach you about June 1, 1955. It is your teachers' testi- mony that you are now ready to seek wider horizons. It also ex- presses a deep interest which your teachers have in you. We congratulate you upon your achievement and wish for you a future of years filled with happiness and useful achievement. With the greeting we dare to offer a bit of philosophy: To render the maximum of service to one's fellow man one must live happily with him- self. To be at peace with one’s self there must be an abiding faith in God. MOST INTELLECTUAL Janice and Walter, their intelligence, though truly there, is never exploited but shyly hidden away. MR. E. D. CLASS HISTORY In early September, 1943, Miss Whitty Dickinson and Mrs. Herring march- ed approximately 60 bewildered children into a room and separated us into home- rooms. We were all scared to death of Miss Whitty and her paddle. All through the second grade we struggled through spelling and arithmetic and learned that 2 2 are 5 and KAT spells cat. When we finally reached the third grade we thought we were really grown up, because we were over in the big building. When we were in the fourth grade we were able to fulfill our life's ambition . ... to dance the maypole. In the fifth grade we had Mrs. Tadlock and Miss Williams who knew exactly how to punish us. . . . keep us inside at recess. During the sixth grade we ruled the roost. Nencie Bevan and Billy Paschal were our May Queen and King. The next year was quite an experience in our lives. We entered high school and enj-oyed the mystery of new teacher s and changing classes. We stared at the Juniors and Seniors with awe, and wondered if we'ed ever get that old. The eighth grade was thoroughly enjoyed by us as we were old timers a- round the school by then. In the ninth grade our number was increased by students from Cherry Lake. School dances were a new attraction for us and we all learned to two-step By the time we reached the tenth grade the girls decided that the boys in our class would never grow up and quit throwing chalk and erasers. In the eleventh grade we were joined by students from Pinetta and Lee. We were really a large class now. . . . the second largest graduating class of M. H. S. Never to be forgotten was our wonderful Junior year. . . . getting our class rings and especially our prom. Naturally we thought it was the most beautiful prom ever put on. Our very original class came up with the play, Desperate Ambrose. Our Senior year has been filled with activities: ordering invitations, measuring for caps and gowns, producing an annual, and oh, of course, a lot of studying every night. As our high school days are ending, we have a lot of memories to take with us. We'll never forget the wonderful times we've had, and the friends we have to leave behind. ALEX H. SMITH JEWELER J.
