A MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR CLASS One morning twelve years ago, a frightened, but happy group of boys and girls gathered, with their mothers, for their first day at school. No one in that group of approximately fifty youngsters realized what an important day this was for them. This was the beginning of twelve long years of fun, good times, and hard work. After five years of hard work, we reached our goal of being a Big Shot” or Senior in grammar school. The next year, we were shipped out to Madison High School. We were Big Shots” no longer, but we did enjoy changing classes and not having the same teacher all day. As the years went by, our number was in- creasing. During the ninth grade we were joined by forces from Cherry Lake. In the eleventh grade, students from Pinetta and Lee were added to our class. So we marched onward, greater than ever, and during the last two years we have been riding high. This year we have again attained our goal. We are Big Shots”, honest- to-goodness Seniors; and by the addition of students from Cherry Lake, Lee, Pinetta, Georgia, Texas, and other states of the union, and some from neighboring towns of Florida, we have become the largest class ever to graduate from Madison High. We have just concluded one of the greatest sports years in the history of the school. Teams dominated by Seniors have won two NFC championships and one runner-up. The girls’ softball team also won the NFC. Several of our members have won scholarships. One has gained national recognition as a cherry pie baker, and another as being State President of 4-H Club. These records would not have been possible had it not been for our parents, teachers, coaches, sponsors, and members of the faculties of schools throughout the county. So to you we say Thanks—Thanks a lot. And to you, our fellow students and classmates, we say thanks fot our good times together. We have enjoyed these years with you. Now as it comes time to leave old MHS probably no words can sum up our thoughts as well as those of Longfellow from his Psalm of Life”: “Lives of great men all remind us, We can make our lives sublime; And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time.' BRYAN WILSON, President
