MR. JOHN L. PALCHEFF The 1987 Madison High yearbook is dedicated to Mr. John L. Palcheff for the many years of service that he gave to the Madison Community District 12. Mr. Palcheff graduated from Madison High School in 1942, after which he spent three years in the Navy before beginning his college career at Washington University in 1946. After his graduation in 1949 he spent the next five years at the university as a graduate assistant, instructor, head basketball and baseball coach. He played professional softball for seven years and was elected to the Metro Softball Hall of Fame in June of 1969. His first assignment with the Madison schools began in 1954 when he became principal of Harris Elementary School. He served as curriculum director, administrative assistant and assistant superintendent before being named superintendent of Madison District 12 in 1973. He was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, university scholastic honor society, the Phi Delta Kappa educational organizations, the Illinois Association of School Administrators and the American Association of School Administrators. Palcheff also is a member of the Amvets Post, Elks Lodge, Cahokia Mound Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Tri-Cities Area Chamber of Commerce. He married the former LaVerne Indermark in 1951. They are the parents of three, Mrs. Deborah Smith, Mrs. Donna Davis, and Dr. John Palcheff, Jr. 4
