Madison has lost one of its most devoted teachers with the passing of Miss Fern Reed, late teacher of Citizenship and World History. Dedicated to her profession, she believed firmly in scholarship. As proof of her loyalty to this high ideal, she devoted many years of conscientious service to a student body who recognized her intolerance of inferior work. But Miss Reed had another facet to her character— the personable one she exhibited outside the class- room. Here we observed an interesting conversationalist, one who loved to talk of the theatre and the musical world, for she was so well acquainted with the two fields. She was always quick to laugh at a joke and enjoyed the company of those interesting people who had been places, seen things and could add sparkle to the moments. When we heard the news of Miss Reed's death last September, it was difficult for us to realize that her life was over. Such courage and fierce determination to carry on despite her illness was an inspiration to all of us to valiantly accept whatever life gives us. The dimming sands of time have erased many in- cidents of the past, but somehow it can never erase Miss Reed's spirit. Yes, it was her spirit that we admired and that seems to be with us still!
