Olson, who was elected commission- er and chosen mayor, giving his campaign speech. 3. Mr. Piper is showing D. Schmidt and C. Kent some of the things he does as city assessor. 2. These distinguished gentlemen, L. Jacobs and R. Hill, were the police magis- trates for the day. 4. E. Arechuck, head billing clerk, and her assistant, L. Hegg, and K. Kreul, learned about this phase of city govern- ment by doing some of the duties of a billing clerk. 5. J. Tofflemlre and D. McDonald were city engineers for the day. 6. Looking over the books in the treasurer's office are L. Cross, city treasurer, and her assistant, C. Jung.

Gist, who was elected as one of the nine com- missioners. Others elected were: R. Olson, J. Borns, L. Holdorf, D. Halseth, G. Chapman, M. Rames, M. Arneson , and K. Kessler. 2. R. Hill and L. Jacobs presided over the court where several MHS students were tried for various things. B. Tomscha acted as city attorney. 3. The law was strictly enforced by these patrolmen. They are from left to right: D. MilIer,A. Hess, C.Liddiard, J. Kirkeby, and D. Oines. 5. A member of the American Legion gave a brief talk at a student assembly, before the days activities began. 6. The sewage disposal plant was one of the points which the com- missioners vislted on their tour of the city.

EAW l. Barbara Tomscha was chosen DAR representative this year at Madison Central. This award is based on dependability, leadership, patriot- ism, and the active part the person has played in church and home life. Candidates were chosen by the senior class and selected by the faculty. W7 .Side WA 7 Safe 2. Sandra Moose and Mary Strand will represent Central at Girl's State this Year. Girl's State will be held for a week in Mitchell. These girls will study the functions of our government as they take part in the various offices. 3. Three boys will represent Central at Boy's State which is to be held in Aberdeen this year. Jim Olson, Jeff Olson, and Randy Reichert were chosen to run for the offices and study our democratic government. 76
