This territory became the homeland of many pioneers who came with only a courageous spirit and a strong will to make their lives better. The determination of these men and women enabled them to brave the hardships and loneliness of settling a virgin land which gave us the heritage that is ours today. The accomplishments of the early pioneer are evident in agriculture, legislation, and science. We students are faced with the challenge of continuing the great work of our fore- fathers. Madison Central High, as an educational institution, TS proud to PGY homage to The earit' pioneers who are responsible for founding the South Dakota Territory, and enacting the laws under which we operate. We, The Annual Staff of Madison Central High School, dedicate this, the l96l INTER LAKES , to the South Dakota Territorial Centennial Year. 4 a W: K , agar: , , KW Lvlw . This placque was given for being the most out-standing band in the million-dollar parade. This is only one of the great honors which Bill and his band have bestowed on, not only our high school, but also the entire community. Our band is recognized all over the state and in several other states for being superior in all aspects. Not only have they acouired countless material honors, but the personal fine qualities which they have mas- tered as a result of band, can never be equaled by any other group of students. Responsibility, etiquette, good sports- manship, and truly adult behavior are only a few of these qualities. But our boys always maintained and upheld good sportsmanship and high spirits both at home and whlle away. Many times they set the example of be- havior for the student body. What did the boys gain by playing basketball? Physical co-ordination, self-confidence, poise, new friends, new experiences and above all the self- satisfaction of knowing they have tried their best are only a few examples of the benlflts they reaped. The play was a psycological drama based on the following plot: A young man, Henry Abbott, worked his way into the home of an elder- ly woman, Mary Herrles. He proceeded to try and drlve her crazy while he sold her art collection for his own benefit. In the final act, Mary pulls herself together and induces a man from the bank who had come to see Mr. Abbott to take a note to the pollce for her, and, once again, justice prevails. 70 Cafcfa ca jafgng jar ne lei pfayd Pajama Party: Directors: M.
