English Creates Literary Atmoybere Contemporary Prose, Journalism, Utopian Literature, Drama, Effective Reading, Speech, Creative Writing, Publications, Shakespeare, Mass Media, Language and Reality . . . these are some of the courses which sophomores, juniors, and seniors may elect in addition to, or in place of, regular English classes. Every student at Madison takes at least one English class every term that he is in school, the major goal of the department is to devel- op every student's ability to communicate with others in such a way that he can satisfy his own needs for expression aswell as the re- quirements of those under whom he may be- come employed or receive further education. Teachers in the department, aware of the importance of the communication skills, plan as many activities as possible in which stu- dents practice and develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
