Introduces Processing MR. BUTTERFIELD U Mr. Cyril Butterfield is completing his fourth year at Madison as ' e- rinci al and dean of boys. 1 , na rzany :responsibilities at Madison include' acting .as the Boys, League advisor and serving as school co-ordinator with the Qads Club. Among other things, he is in charge -of all fund-raising drives, ticket sales, sports, and banquets. lt is also Mr. Butter- field's responsibility to organize and plan the graduation cere- monies in June. MRS. BUSHNELL The curriculum department of Madison is organized by vice-principal Mrs. Sue Bushnell. Although Madison occupies one of the largest school buildings in Port- land, it actually has little space available for class- rooms at peak times durinq the school dav. It is thus more crowded than any high school in Portland. As a result, scheduling and balancing classes has proved to be a time-consuming job. ln addition to her other duties, Mrs. Bushnell super- vises new teachers and presides over a monthly meet- ing in which various phases and aspects of education are discussed.

Before coming to Madison he held the po- sition of Dean of Freshman at Willamette University and Director of Admissions, and principal of Camas Junior High. As principal, Mr. Erickson has under his auspices the efficient operation of the entire school. Everything must be kept in a smooth working order and a pleasing and harmonious situation maintained to assure complete co-operation. MISS DEAN Miss Georgia Dean, dean of girls, has been an ad- ministrative vice-principal at Madison since the school's opening in 1957. Among Miss Dean's many and varied duties at Madi- son are the keeping of the school calendar, the as- signment of dates for school activities, and the prepa- ration and distribution of the weekly calendar. She also advises the Madison P.T.A. and serves in an advisory capacity to the Girls' League. This year Miss Dean has taken on a new responsi- bility. ln the fall data processing was introduced at Madison for the first time. Under the able direction and supervision of Miss Dean, the change-over to l.B.M. report cards efficiently transpired. ml' . K.:

Mr. Bruhn is a special counselor at Madison. In his first year here, he teaches two English classes a day. His main responsibility, however, is serving as ad- visor for the Neighborhood Youth Corps. This pro- gram is financed 9O '!o by the Federal Government. Its purpose is to provide students from low-income families worthwhile job training under supervisors. The program helps to keep potential drop-outs rn Madison by reducing the impersonal feeling of the school. Counselors Ponder The sophomore class of 1968 is advised by Mrs. Amelia Auld and Mr. James Taylor. Mrs. Auld has been at Madison since the school's open- ing and is currently the counseling chairman. Mr. James Taylor not only advised the sophomore bovs but also taught one class of mathe- matics and acted as test co-ordinator. .,..a-,fsmff .,., we Mrs. Charlotte Winter and Mr. Dick Rumble are the class counselors for the juniors. Mrs. Winter spends five periods a day counseling the girls and also has one first year French class to teach. Mr. Rumble is currenly enjoying his first year at Madison as a counselor and as an in- structor of one senior social studies class.
