Mrs. Annis Bleeke Mr. Warren Bolin Mr. Richard Edmonds Mr. Melvin Erickson Mr- Dvdne Fiskum Mathematics Mathematics Mathematics Mathematics Mathematics Students The members of Madison's mathematics department want to teach arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonom- etry and some analytic geometry to all students who can benefit from studying these subiects and are interested in doing so. The traditional content of these courses are not basically changed textbooks we have chosen to use in the School Mathematics Study Group. The big differ- ence is in the way the content is taught. The SMSG courses attempt to teach you more than just how to do ity they also attempt an honest explanation as to why you do it this way. They also attempt to organize the material so that all courses and parts of course are logically related, from the ground up. ln each of the last four years, we have extended the SMSG material to one more course. This year the SMSG program includes all second year algebra classes after being on a trial basis in this subject last year. We have one SMSG senior math class on a trial basis this year. In our arithmetic classes, we are either trying to improve your understand- ing c'f the arithmetic you studied in grade school, or else show you various new ways to use the arithmetic you have learned. Mr. Verle Duckering Mathematics Department Chairman Counseling Mr. Duckering heads mathematics department.
