English goals include student proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Grammar and usage of English are stressed as well as literature. The Odyssey, Midsummer Night's Dream, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Huckleberry Finn, Boy on Horse- back from the Autobiography of Lincoln Steffens, Abe Lincoln Grows Up, and The Yearling may be offered as class selections. Social studies units include Orientation to High School and an introduction to geography and history, civiliza- tion and culture, history of Europe H450-19002, Asia, Near East, North Africa, Africa south of the Sahara, and Latin America.
