To this we must add knowledge of current proc- esses that shape the present and determine the future. As freshmen you established the beginnings of man: traced his development to our medieval society, then, having found that individual man recognized a much greater destiny, were able to follow him. As sophomores, through the struggling societies and institutions of the world during the Renaissance the in- dustrial revolution and the great wars. As juniors you related our American heritage to its European foundations, developed an appreciation of the organization of our great government, traced the course. of historical growth how we became the greatest nation on earth. Then, finally as seniors you saw your own position: a participant both present and future. Participating as an individual: within groups, and as a breadwinner against others yet all backed by the might of a stable government. You have arrived. You are ready for the world. Care- ful, we hope, recognizing your shortcomings but ever alert to your potential. Free now to grow in understand- ing and appreciation against my challenge.
