datum 4 ?7a7e Four years ago the class of 1956 entered M3d1SOD l-hgh School We struggled through the classes day after day wonderxng 1f anythmg could be more d1ff1cult or more complex than hxgh school The days became weeks the weeks became months and gradually we found ourselves sa111ng w1th the help of our teachers, over a calm and beauuful sea of success and ach1evement As we look back now we real1ze what tremendous changes have taken place durmg our enrollment at M H, S We have been shown how to th1nk and how to reach senslble conclus1ons by deducuve reasomng As a result our personal1t1es have been altered and molded unul we fmd ourselves ready to accept the duttes and respons1b1l1 t1es of an Amer1can cmzen Several of our class have reached a decxsxon as to what occupatlon or f1eld of endeavor they would l1ke to follow Up unul last fall we have had a SSIIOUS lack of adequate shop and physlcal educatlon facxl1t1es The SIIUHIIOH really got desperate when some schools threatened to drop us from the1r basketball schedules, because our gym proved to be 1nsuff1c1ent Th1S has been solved however by the add1t1on of a two story bu1ld1ng contalntng a three umt shop on the ground floor and a gymnasrum on the second The bu1ld1ng provrdes twenty thousand square feet floor surface area, g1v1ng us more than enough room to take a deep breath w1thout go1ng outdoors There 15 an old saymg wh1ch states that Necess1ty IS the mother of Invenuon Also, where there IS a w1ll, there IS a way To combat a problem known to all of us the Student Councll undertook to sponsor a Safe Teen Club The Safe Teen move ment wh1ch was started by a lady Judge 1n Oregon, has been sweepmg the country, and Mad1son has the d1snnct1on of berng one of the f1rst clubs 1n Mame to recexve us charter It IS made up of persons between the ages of fxfteen and twenty f1ve These persons must be l1censed operators 1n the state 1n whrch they l1ve, and they must DC the operator of an automob11e Wh1Ch IS free from defects or defect1ve equ1pment After the automobxle has passed an extens1ve IDSPCCIIOD at a local garage the opera tor IS gxven a Safe Teen bumper smp If the person 18 conv1cted of a traffrc v1o1at1on, the Judge, who presldes at the tr1al may COTl.f1SC3I6 the strlp, wh1ch can be relnstated only by the vote of other club members To quote another t1me tested say1ng all good thmgs must come to an end As xt IS wrth our htgh school career, so must II be Wllh th1s brxef hlstory of outstandxng events and happen1ngs For a more complete account of the last four years turn to the rema1n1ng pages of thrs book In closrng I want to wrsh every member of our class the best of luck and happmess 1n the prof ess1on of 1115 or her cho1ce YOUR EDITOR 21
