The games were full of excitement and good times, even though there were bruised limbs. The Seniors, with Ann I-Ietterly and Elinor Pielstick as their captains, won one game, lost one, and tied one. Nicky Dorrance and Christa .Xlichel as junior co-captains drew deuces of three lost games. Trudy Terhune and Cathie Colosimo led the fighting Sophs to a record of 0 wins and one loss. The Frosh midgets overwhelmed our able coach, Mrs. McKay. Co-captains Leone Rothe and Liz VVheeler came up with no wins and one loss. Intramural hockey games gave some thrilling moments during which the determined Seniors beat the juniors in an overtime. The Seniors were champions, the juniors, second. The Sophs bowed their heads while third place went to the fighting Freshmen. The Sophomores came up with ace low in fourth place. We hope that all hockey enthusiasts will enjoy another year of the sport of queens and realize the benefits of clean, competitive activities such as this. This effective system is emphasized by the shouts and noise of practice days. Because there are no permanent captains of the four respective class teams, Mrs. McKay chooses four girls each week as temporary captains in organizing the teams. This gives more individuals the experience and responsibility of leadership. The highlight of the season is the annual interclass basketball tournament in which there are many exciting, cheering moments. This past year the Senior class were undisputed champions. Then the record was five wins and three ties. Although the season was a jubilant one. it ended on a sad note. BASEBALL 19 I The .Xladison Varsity baseball team, ending in a whirlwind finish, matched last year's record of 5 wins and 7 losses. They finished 4th in the Conference, boasting a win over every opponent except the conference crown winner, Summit. After a miserable start, plagued with frequent errors and poor attendance, the team snapped back to win four out of the last five. They ended champs, one of their few losses. The score, 1-O. The pitchers were plagued throughout the season by spotty fielding and weak hitting. Even in the games they won, the pitchers had little offensive support, as the team scored only one run in the last three games. In order to win two of those games, the pitchers had to hurl shut outs with the help of excellent fielding. the season by giving Chatham sectional 'all-state J. V. BASEBALL FIRST ROXV: B. Led by Coach Pullen, the team seemed to pull out the close ones, leaving the floor with the victory, and leaving their fans spellbound with their last minute comebacks. The Suburban Conference record was five up and five down, but was good enough for second place behind Caldwell's perfect record. VVith seven veterans we were expected to be a threat in the conference, but plagued by illnesses and injuries to key men they ended up only even. Losing one close game CSummit 48-463 and winning 6, one in overtime. they proved that they had what it takes to be a good ball club. Four of their five losses were experienced against teams that were unusually good that game, and could not be stopped. On the good side of the ledger are two wins over our rival, Chatham, a long awaited win over Verona, and our first taste of victory over Clifford Scott. Improved courtsters, well-balanced in height and ability, they proved to be a winning combination. The team had no great scorer but everybody was capable of scoring in double figures. The scoring race was led by Ryer Schermerhorn. and Bob Philhower, with john Swett third. The team had a good shooting percent, and one out of three shots taken were made, Bob Philhower having a phenomenal shooting percentage of 54W XVith five juniors on the Yarsity and a victory starved .l.Y., Coach Pullen has little to work with next year, but everybody knows that they will produce a good team.
