1928 HALEMBIC 1928 Editorial A school such as Madison High may be considered a small city, complete, and almost self-sufficient. It has its eXecutives, its organiza- tions, its smaller organizations and committees which comprise the city government. 1 It has its shops, laboratories, library, theatre and numer- ous institutions of learning. And, lastly, it has politics. Petty politics, to be sure, but as in every city, large or small, cliques and parties are constantly in operation. Each is eager to ad- vance its ideas and its candidates and is eager to see the city run as that particular party wants it to run. In our past history, as in the beginnings of cities, certain indi- viduals have dominated the masses because they originated new ideas and customs. But the citizens of this city are, one and all, waking up to the fact that they may take active part in these organizations too. Thus, our school is rapidly growing into a smooth-running, com- plete and well-organized city, with every person doing his part to put Madison High School on the map. C Appreciation Originators of new ideas are to be highly commended, for to them is due the credit which follows the successful establishment of their ideas. Thus, we cannot praise too highly the Class of '27, which was the first in the history of our school to publish a year book. We would not have had a year book for several years if it had not been for the energy and ambition displayed by the Class of '27 in the interest of the publication of the 1927 Alembic. , We, the Class of '28, have compiled a year book which we hope will meet the approval of our fellow students and friends, and which will be kept by them in remembrance of the years we have spent with them in Madison High School. As the Class of 1927 wished us to continue their ideas, so we hope the following classes will carry on the tradition, yearly improving the Alembic and making it a symbol of friendship among the students of our school. 7 T.
