Senior spirit wraps up Red and Black week Alvin Ramsey represents M-club spirit among Mark Henderson, Jack Bennett, and Bill Lucas. Portraying a Frankton Eagle, Nancy Graham bows down to the basketball team at a spirit convo Attired in the school colors, MH students backed the basketball team during Red and Black week. Students worked to perfect hall displays, ban- ners, and bulletin boards. Several awards were presented at the sectional pep session. Chosen by the student body to reign as Miss Scarlet and Mr. Black were seniors Ed Demos and Sheiletha McNeal, who led the parade of walking floats. Junior Steve Porter was the winner of the 1971 Mr. Gorgeous Gams contest held by the JOLLY ROGER. The cheerleaders awarded Mrs. Maxine Barcus a special award for her help during the season. Mrs. Lee Heckman and Mr. Bill Harless were chosen by the cheerleaders to reign as Mrs. Scarlet and Mr. Black because of their contribution to the spirit at Madison Heights. Winning the hall display award and the JOLLY ROGER spirit award plaque was the class of '71 Lea Jones congratulates a beaming Mrs. Scarlet, Lee Heckman, at the Sectional pep convo. 25

The nominations were made by the TREASURE CHEST staif out of the upper third of the senior class. The entire student body voted on the queen and the two attendants. Candidates were escorted across the gym floor during half-time of the Madison Heights-Muncie South bas- ketball game on February 19. Student Council President Fred McGuire announced Queen Jennifer Wofford and First and Second Runners-up Sheiletha McNeal and Sandy Hull. Mark Funkhouser crowned the queen and presented her with roses. The queen also received a gold charm and the attendants accepted silver charms.
