Threatens Reign of Homecoming Queen The homecoming queen candidates and their escorts await the announcement of the winner. Left to right are Anita Miller, sophomore, Jeanne Korteweg, senior, Joe Wheat, Co-Captain, Pam Carmack, junior, and Becky Kuch, freshman. With the coming of fall, came the excitement of the annual Homecoming festivities. After weeks of preparation, hopes for the parade were almost dashed when it rained all day on Friday, but at the last moment the rain stopped and the floats came out from under their tarps. The bit¬ ing wind caused a few mishaps, but the thirty-two entries made the best parade in the history of Madison Heights. In the bitter cold at the half¬ time of the mud-plagued football game, Joe Wheat, co-captain of the team crowned Jeanne Korte- weg as the 1961 Homecoming Queen. At the end of the tie game-- Howe 6--MHHS 6--Madison stu¬ dents and alumni celebrated on this exciting and unusual night with a Homecoming soc-hop. Left: The Thespians present Howe: Foiled Again. The first place seniors conquer with a Roman theme. Center: Cheerleaders cheer on the Pirates. Right:

Darlene Jaquess, yearbook queen, is attended by Linda Gray at left and Marilyn Filbrandt at right. First Yearbook Queen Chosen This year the 1962 Treasure Chest staff initiated a new tra¬ dition at Madison Heights by sponsoring their yearbook-queen contest. The 1962 Yearbook Queen reigned over the soc-hop following the Warren Central football g a m e . Each candidate wore a corsage of white carna¬ tions, and the queen received a bouquet of American Beauty roses. The fourteen homerooms with the highest percentages of annual sales nominated the candi¬ dates, and the twelve hundred stu¬ dents who bought annuals voted for the queen. The annual sales, the year¬ book-queen contest, and the soc- hop were all a great success; and the Annual Staff hopes to continue this new tradition in future years.
