Academic Achievement Won Its After many weeks of independent study and advanced work in their subjects, sev¬ eral students participated in the Indiana University High School Achievement Con¬ tests. They had first taken elimination tests at MH; then they won high ranks on the regional tests given at Ball State. The last Saturday in April, 1961, was finals day, on which Madison Heights students won the following awards: Honorable Men¬ tion—Dan Murray-Comprehensive Math B, Bill Steimer-English, Tom Jones-Geome- try, Richard Sheppard-Geometry, Carmen Beasley-Algebra; Gold Medal--Julie Turn- quist-English. 20

Student Efforts in Many Craig Priest was awarded one of the two Indi¬ ana district Fisher Body awards for his car design. Fisher Body gave him a cash price of $150 and atrip to the National Guild Convention at Detroit. For her outstanding work in home economics, Sandie Cook was nominated to McCall ' s Fashion Board. Chosen for outstanding leadership and good citizenship, Freshmen —Judy Eidson, Dave Bertram, Sophomores--Carmen Beasley, Bill Elwell, Juniors--Ann Whitehead, Paul Jarrett, Seniors--Be- verly Friend, Dan Murray, attended the Optimist Club dinner. Christie Hudson won the Voice of Democracy speech for Madison Heights.
