A first year offers many chal- lenges--those who have accepted and met those challenges will be better citizens as a result of having done so. Anothe r goal of the Treasure Chest is to record the memories of the past school year for tho s e young people who have lived them. Growing out of a long need by the junior-senior high students of Anderson Township, labored on by our citizens, educators, and trustees, its doors first opened to serve in S e pte mb e r 1956. Our teachers, the real source of our learning, have shown patient cooperation in dealing with the multiple problems of our new school. The classrooms are light, comfortable, and colorful. Many other features to which we point with pride are the spaciousness in- side and out, an ample gymnasium, a pleasant cafeteria with an ultra-modern kitchen, vo- cational shops, homemaker's department, in- teresting laboratories, and a well-stocked library--all offe ring us the best in educa- tional opportunity. This is the heritage one generation leaves to create better citizens enjoying life to the fullest. X OU OWN WW RW 'fffiiwiii XJADISCDN HEIGHTS Lf It has taken a lot of hard work and personal s a c rific e to organize this school of over 1,500 students. Our principal has done a marvelous job in unifying the s chool so smoothly. The seniors especially appreciate this in our last y e a r . It is both with pride and pleasure that we dedicate this first Treasure Chest to Mr. R. E. Collier. DEDIC T10 Attention Pleas Q J Mr. I. Dale Prough Mr. John A. MADISCDN HEIGHTS VARSITY Even though the va r sity basketball team didn't win at first, you could tell they had what it takes. The tu rning point of the year came when we lost to Yorktown by only one point. Most of us were sure we would win the next game and we did! Although most of the plays were set up around center, Larry Huffman, who is 6'5 tall, Coach Paul Bradford had no set line -up for the team. With our five wins against Pendleton, Jackson Central, Frankton, Hancock Central, and North Central, we made state his- tory by winning more games than any other school has ever won in the fi r st ye ar . Next year's team will lack the speed of Terry Sayring and height of Larry Huffman. FRESHMAN SPORT I6-I RECORD This year's freshman basketball team es- tablished a most enviable record by winning 16 ball games while losing but one, a record which may long stand. Although the boys were from different Junior High schools and had not played Highland Wilkinson Frankton Lapel Frankton Frankton Elwood Hancock Central New Castle Alexandria together before, they were we l d e d into a fine Frankton Southside ball team. The hard working cross-country team stacked up a fine record considering the fact that this was their first season in the running and it was mainly devoted to their organization. This was the first year that inost of the boys had ever been in cross-country competition and Our self-contained wrestling team was supervised by Mr. John Riley. lt was divided into three groups: light weight coached by Richard Delph, middle weight coached by Don Heacox, light light-heavy and heavy weights coached by Tom Osburn. Fifteen of the mem- bers are in high school and two are in junior it took a lot of hard work just to get used to the strain. The boys who received lette r s were: Bob Brooks , John Bryne, Tom Carpenter, Maurice Campbell, Tom C a m pb e ll, Richard Delph, Larry Earley, Grant Felzien, Bill Hogg, Marvin Nunemaker, Terry Say ri ng and Dale Smith. high. Five are honor stude nts . Our school was host for three meets and we attended six away from home, winning the ones with Bluffton and Marion.
