, Ellen Wddle and Wiadwm- Ealfege and Smzdmziam Q 1 J' T i Mrs. WhiTe had a leading parT in The Tounding of Madison College. IT was she who selecTed The spoT- The beauTiTul Tarm, as she called iT-upon which The school was builT. She had recenTly reTurned Trom a year's sTay in AusTralia where The Avondale school had been esTablished, under her caireTul guidance. And This new school in America was To be Tounded largely on The principles oT The one in AusTralia. ln The early years oT The school and unTil The Time oT her deaTh, Mrs. WhiTe conTinued her acTive supporT oT The work aT Madison. Large framed picTure of Ellen G. WhiTe hanging in The FaculTy Room aT Madison College Sie The school aT Madison noT only educaTes in a knowledge oT The ScripTures, buT iT gives a pracTical Training ThaT TiTs The sTudenT To go TorTh as a selT-supporTing missionary To The Tield To which he is called .... The sTudenTs have been TaughT To raise Their own crops, To build Their own houses, and To care wisely Tor caTTle and poulTry. They have been learning To become self-supporTing, and a Training more imporTanT Than This They could noT receive. Thus They have obTained a valuable educaTion Tor usefulness in missionary Tields. The class oT educaTion given aT The Madison school is such as will be accounTed a Treasure oT greaT value by Those who Take up missionary work in Toreign Tields. IT many more in oTher schools were receiving a similar Training, we as a people would be a specTacle To The world, To angels, and To men. The message would be quickly carried To every counTry, and souls now in darkness would be broughT To The lighT. LeT us sTrengThen This company oT educaTors To conTinue The good work in which They are engaged, and labor To encourage oThers To do a similar work. Then The lighT oT TruTh will be carried in a simple and eTTecTive way, and a greaT work will be accomplished Tor The MasTer in a shorT Time. An Appeal Tor The Madison School, pp. l-3 The useTulness learned on The school Tarm is The very educaTion ThaT is mosT essenTial Tor Those who go ouT as missionaries To many Toreign Tields. IT This Training is given wiTh The glory oT God in view, greaT resulTs will be seen. No work will be more eTTecTual Than ThaT done by Those who, having obTained an educaTion in pracTical liTe, go TorTh To mission Tields wiTh The message OT TruTh, prepared To insTrucT as They have been insTrucTed. The knowledge They have obTained in The Tilling oT The soil and oTherslinexs,oT manual work, and which They carry wiTh Them To Their TieldsoT labor, will make Them a blessing even' in heaThen lands. IT was presenTed To me ThaT This was a place where an all-round educaTion could be given advan-- Tageously To sTudenTs who should come Trom The lNlorTh and The SouTh Tor insTrucTion.
