D. anown, Principal 'Madison High School, and then 'Central High School, ' the new name given to it when East High School was built, ha been a part of the Central section of the City for about a hun- dred years. It has educated the bankers, lawyers, docton, mer- chants, whose names have long been familiar on stores, in banks, on office doors and in neon lights. Central High School has contributed to the professkmal learning of Madison's important men as well as to those who had to cut short a part of their schooling. Central will continue to do its duty for Madison. and especially for the downtown sec- tion. The humorous story of a family of twelve children kept the audi- ence supplied with chuckles. The play was directed by Mrs. Dorothy Wheeler. 83.98139 Qfwv as HG? MR. FANDRICI-I 20 Central's band, under the direction of Mr. Walter Fandrich, stepped into rythmn this fall with foot- ball formations. Frozen hands and instruments will long be remembered as part of the fun. Later they were kept busy tuning their instruments for the Pep Auds. Through the basketball season they kept the bleachers shaking and the gym resounding with their Bleacher Boogie and 'Tiger Rag. Central students and visitors alike loved to hear Mr. Lee's trumpet accompanirnents. After long preparation they appeared in the Mid-Winter Concert in which they did a marvelous job especially on 'Caribbean Fantasy. Band members will always remember the trip to Riverside High School in Milwaukee. Their musical year tapered off with a performance in the Spring Concert and the Memorial Day festivities. Throughout the year, the last minute races to rehearsal and the hasty tuning will never be forgotten. orchestra Central's concert orchestra, directed by Mr. Walter Fandrich, began its activities with the annual Fall Pop Concert. Members will never forget 'The Typewriter. In the short time after the Pop Con- cert, the orchestra prepared for the Mid-Winter Concert. Pique Dame was the highlight of the Winter Concert. Girl members will never forget the time they had trying to get their formals in between the chairs at the Spring Concert. The orchestra completed a successful year at the graduation exercises Ninth grade string players have been a part of the orchestra throughout the school year, adding strength to the string section. MISS MCCORMICK choir The A Cappella Choir, directed by Mis Darleen McCormick, began its work early in the fall with a feeling of anticipation. Both the director and the choir were anxious to show off their new robes. Their first performance in the new robes occurred in the school Christmas Program. Choir members will always remember the Christmas Pageant at the Capitol. Their performance at the Mid-Winter Concert was their next big job. One of the familiar numbers was A-Round the Comer. Their last performances of the year were the Spring Concert and the All-City Music Festival. Last of all, choir members will remember the singing of No Man ls an Island at Graduation. DOUBLE QUARTET Many mornings of practice and finally success! This is the story of the Double Quartet, which is direc- ted by Miss Darleen McCormick. Their mellow voices are heard at the Christmas Program and at the Spring and Mid-Winter Concerts. Finally their voices are joined with the voices of the Triple Trio in the Class Night program Mary Tschudy Pauline Rowley Gail Slafer Emily Gerothanas Gail I-louser Judy Penn Carolyn Mitchell Penny Brown Pat Pedracine U n Don Jennerman, Murray Ison Fred Sasso David Hughes Allen Thor son Jim Fiscus Bamey Gavin Jack Lister TRIPLE TRIO The Triple Trio composed of nine senior girls sang together for the last time on Class Night, thus ending a very successful year. They first appeared together at the semi-, annual Girls' Club meeting in the fall. Later in the year they particl- pated in the annual Christmas pro- gram and then in the Winter Concert In May they performed very admir- ably at the Spring Concert. This was their final performance before Class Night. X Top row: C. Mazursky, J. Ehrman, P. Slavney, T. Julian, R. Lenzer, E. Zimmerman, D. Kendall, C Leroux, R. Tipple, J. Kailin, B. Olson. The publishing of a school news paper is a day-to-day job. This year the Madison Mirror has been published by a commercial printer. Editors will never forget long hours spent on layouts, headlines, and picture captions. Reporters will look back on hectic deadlines and people who would never cooperate when interviewed. Typists memo- ries will include seemingly illegible copy and rickety typewriters in 420. Photographers will always have vi- sions of blank negatives, Super Cen- tralitas running away, and the de- manding voice of an irate editor. All of these people and incidents have combined to make this year's Mirror. Hartman, Coach Matoba has a veteran squad with two promising sophomores, Ralph Mitchell and Bernie Hart- man, The veterans, who went into the State finals last year, are Terry Schmaus and John Evachenko, singles, and Schmaus and Bill Steele in the doubles. This promises to be a good season for the racket squad. In golf, Coach Wendt finally found the missing links, and the squad will use the new West Side Municipal Course as their home base. Most promising players to date are Jerry Norsman and John Weier. f-.-.. GOLF Back row: T. Weier, P, Fedele, E. Garvoille, D. Olson, J. Rusch, T. 5 Kepler. Second row: K. WRESTLING '57 - '58 Coach Barosko's grapplers finished the season with a 2-'7 record, the City Champs, and two qualifier's in rhe State Meet. Orval Quamme won the City title, was the Sectional Champion at Janesville, and represented Central in the State Meetg Roger Kopp was both City and Big-Eight Champion, and qualified for the State. Jerry Ulrich was a consistent winner all year, unfortunately, he suffered a knee dislocation a few days before the City Meet and the injury hurt his championship hopes in all the group meets. 1 --u....,1.,..,rv Qt-'po-ygfq-rua, ,....pu-ff iw. ,sl l I -v U Q vi' , 'Z Jumon men l z ' mi 6Hf 1 ,QQPX I i, X x iw - .- ,Q il Qi?
