THE EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY of CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, Madison, Wisconsin The first responsibility of our school is to prepare our pupils for effective citizenship in a democratic America, and help them realize the vital importance of that preparation. This involves the knowledge of cultural heritage and of contemporary living, attitudes and skills to a greater degree than was apparent in any previous period. It involves faith in the obligation of social responsibilities, not merely a belief in social equality. The second responsibility of our school Is to give opportunities, environment and help toward the maximum development of each child's potentialities, with the goal of a well-balanced happy personal life and a productive, effective membership in the varied life and work of the community. This involves guidance toward personal, educational, social (human relationships), recreations, and vocational adjustments and growth. 10
