Sticha, W. Northrup. All-Central Committee The All-Central Committee. one of the major student council committees. is under the chairmanship of Allen Sweet. The members of the group during 19-17-19-18 included Robert Schwartz, Mary Bond, Don- na Mergcn, Walter Northrup, Nick Galanos, Iames McDonald, Robert Ross, Barbara Hobbs, Georgia Hotton. Coleman lackson, and Kenneth Sticha. Miss Elizabeth Ritzmann was the adviser of the group. The main work of this committee during the school year was the Fiftieth Anniversary Iubilee Cele- bration held on Friday. October 31, 19-17. Many hours of work were necessary for effective planning and the successful carrying out of such an affair. Here is the complete story of this important and memorable event in Central's history: At the first meeting of the student council held on September 17, 19-17, it was decided to have a Fifti- eth Iubilee in remembrance of Central's winning of the national football championship. After discussion, it was turned over to the All-Central Committee. As soon as the proposed program for October 31, the occasion ofthe Racine 1-Iorlick game, was approved by Mr. Leonard Waehler, special invitations and complimentary tickets were sent to the members of the 1897 team. When the plans for the day were finally realized, they began with a private reunion for the team members at 1 p.m. in the Loraine Hotel. At 1:30 p.m. they were taken on a tour of the city and the univer- sity. At 2:30 the six men were honored speakers at a Pep Meeting planned by the Pep Committee. Owen Moyer is chairman of the committee, which is sponsored by Mr. Richard Gross. Immediately following the pep program, a reunion for old classmates and friends of the 1897 team members was held in room 223. Barbara Hobbs and Kenneth Sticha acted as a reception committee at this time. A highlight of this informal gathering was the appearance of Miss Iulia Murphy, former Cen- tral teacher. A photograph of the champs was taken in front of the trophy case and other informal photos were taken. At 5:45 a banquet was held in the Monona Room of the Park Hotel. About eighty-Five people were present. The men had gold mums for boutonnieres, while the women were given yellow roses. In a brief program, Mr. Frautschi, toastmaster, introduced many prominent Madison citizens and allumni of Central. Mr. Waehler then presented the championship team members with engraved gold footballs and copies of their 1897 team picture. After the banquet, transportation to Breese Stevens Field was provided in taxicabs. The men sat on a special gold bench that had been provided by Hi-Y. During the half-time ceremony, the band performed novelty numbers and Allen Sweet presented the men to the crowd to the accompaniment of appropriate background music. Allen was introduced by Carl Ctruso, president of Central's Student Council. The entire program of the Iubilee was carried oat without dilhculty, thanks to careful planning and fine cooperation from many sources. The 1897 team members expressed over and over again their appre- ciation of the celebration. The All-Central Committee devoted most of their meeting time during the second semester to study of the manner in which studentycouncil officers are elected. After studying possible changes in the sys- tem, the committee drew up the plan that they thought would be most feasible. These suggestions were then submitted to the Student Council as a whole for their consideration. 1461 R xy I Nfl litale 'VI Nlilltr H Nllrsh W I-ll0llllS Mm M Shtpird L lfthxlltll R Birrmgtr M Hotl son Nl Dossu Row 7 ls Sltenmdorm Rclllx R Lxnch B Hobbs Y Vntcnt I7 Domus H M1llcr Schnmoolt L, Sthtfller B l'hl D l1rlxtl ow J tu 1 t Ju x an 1 1 M1 tr C SILFLIN H HIIIIL T Lmms C Stass Soczal Commzttee LcNore lJeW11de ind Norma Thomas, as co chairmen, head the Social Committee Th1s committee lb made up of 1 group of hard working boys and girls who hue been responsible for the wonderful school plrties this year pid s Fantisy on Fehruiry l-l Th tommittee also mlde 1rrangements lor the scrap rally dmce April 9 Sub committees of the club are orchestra, Dost r lD6H1N6Il publicity, Mona Beale refreshments Marie Hodgson decorations, Roger Barrmger and chaperons, Mary Miller Miss Marguerite Shepard is the adviser Scrap C ommzttee lust because the War is oxer doesnt mean the scrap drixes haxe celsed We at Central hue helped our country during vu ar and we can continu now that the war is oser to help not only our country but also Central s Student C,ounc1l There were two scrap drues this year, one occurring in each ot the two semesters The first was held from Noxember 10 through the 13th and the other was held from April 5 through the 9th Atter the latter drne, a dance was held in the Central gym The ollicials of the Scrap Committee are Bill Borchardt, chairman Angelo Pellitteri, co chairmln Lois Comiskey, secretary, and Mr Harold Rooney, sponsor Ron l S Da gett L Comiskey S icnlxe 'vlr H Roonei IJ lxne1s X Pcllitteri Schtu Row 2 C' Benson D Schult7 M Miller W I XV1thers D lmcx Rirftl D Doms I- I 9lttn1n:lort Row3 Vv Xandtrhott R lmhorf R Hmlxtdahl D 'viarsh li Hoxu D C R Blwel. L . 'fzf l Z .7 -A i 1 vu Junior High School There have been 475 pupils enrolled at Central Iunior High during the present school year. Two hundred fifty-two of these were boys: two hundred twenty-three were girls. One of the outstanding events of the year was the lunior High play, Little Womenf' which was presented hy a cast ol sixteen pupils on November 14th. The operetta. The Outlaw King, was also a major project in which over 150 pupils participated either as members ol' the cast or in committee work, on costumes. staging, properties, and other activities. The interscholastic and intramural sport activities have been a very vital part of our school pro- gram. Ninty-five boys have taken part in intramural basketball and forty-five in intramural football. Our Iunior High basketball team won the Iunior High city championship. The work of the Cheerleaders' club, the Iunior Band and the two Service Clubs have helped con- siderably in making the sports program an interesting part of our Iunior High. The sports activity program was climaxed with an athletic banquet in which members of the Iunior High football and basketball teams were honored, together with those of the Senior High School. The Guidance Committee of Central lunior High, under the direction of Mrs. Hagberg, has been very active this year and has done much to improve the home room activity periods for some rooms.. They hue also sponsored some very interesting auditorium programs Spring highlights ol unior High werc the O ientition Div lor llcmentary School pupils the ini tuition ot new membcrs in th Yrtionil unior Honor Socicty in ill school May Div pirtv and by thc unior High Spring Concert prc cntccl by thc instrumentll ind xocll music groups Rooms 206 and 202 N mth Grade m l nl c c s r I llcurx 'vi Plcwkc S Niucrt P Robinson 'virs Y Cone i c c N s lx Rlhinm on Z rucn w oo sc ll cx cnsc Xhcscn mhl Att c s ost c c so Rogers l 'vlnlrl L on on c t nc 1 ss c rc ici tot ci uw 4 c son c ni 1 o cxc Op it on -l ci Lin s 1 H ll l auer l o si ir XX W T18 .Ti 'r 'r 5 ' 'r '- r' 1' 1 T Q' ' .T ii, li- 'L' A ' :iz':l' ' z ': 1 ' l i if f ' ff ' .
