H. S. Literary Society was organized in 1893 for the purpose of encouraging debating and parliamentary practice among the boys of the Madison High School. During its existence it has had difficulties enough besetting it to discourage many a stronger and older organization. But in spite of adverse influences without, and occasional unruly members within, the society has grown firmer each year and now is certainly the equal of any boys’ society in the state. 1900— Anderson.
