Throughout the years he has always done his best to help us in all the projects we have undertaken. We are proud to have had him guide us in our successful years in high school. In Memoriam HELEN MARY DAVIS FORD January 6, 1940 - February 27, 1960 Bright be the place of thy soul! No lovelier spirit than thine E'er burst from its mortal control, In the orbs of the blessed to shine IIR, XYOOLLEY RTR, EUGENE SMITH Supervising Principal ' ' I Y M Guidance Counselor Prlnclpa s essage It is with a great deal of pleasure that l congratulate the Senior Class, Madka Staff and its Advisors of 1961. We are most fortunate to have our fine new additions completed and in daily use this school year of 1960-61, and we are very proud of this accomplishment, Our new building and the improvements to the main building represent countless hours of study and planning by many people: the Citizens Advisory Committee, the Board of Education, thc Administration, the State Education Department and the Architect. We who are educators realize that quiet, well-constructed, well-ventilated and attractive rooms are conducive to a good learning situation and result in a better educated child. Therefore, as we View these beautiful new rooms, library and gymnasium, we hope to have laid the foundation for a better education, for our children in this school district in the years to come. JOHN DONOVAN MR. MICHAEL HAYDUK High Sghool English Social Studies 10, 11, 12 Class History In September, 1957, 63 eager, excited Freshmen held their very first official class meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to elect their class officers. As the meeting pro- ceeded, David Fairchild was chosen president, Mary Williams to be Vice-President, Gary Relf to be secretary, Judy Carney to be Treasurer, Sharon Law to be Reporter, and Beverly Davis and Marvin Sitts to be Student Council Representatives. Led by such officers, the Freshmen were ready and willing to start earning money for that far-away class trip to Washington, Our projects included one dance, which was very successful, ascrap paper drive, a skating party, a bake sale or two, and a school store. All in all, by the end of the year we were satisfied with our efforts and gains. The sad part of the year was losing four of our members: Sharon Law, Laura Marsh, Winifred Mac Kay, and Robert Paul, The fall of 1958 came, and 57 sophomores returned, just as eager, and more excited than the previous year. We started the year off by electing new officers, who were as follows: President, Philip Quackenbushg Vice-President, Marvin Sittsg Secretary, Joan Kowalskig Treasurer, Judy Carney, Student Council Representatives, Alyn Hughes and Mary Williamsg and Reporter, Charlene Baker, This year we were allowed to have two dances, a scrap paper drive and a skating party, We lost many good friends throughout the season, including Nicole Drees, Charles Lorimer, Connie Durr, Jack Durr, Eunice Blunt, Eugene Morgan, Dick Crane, Robert Fog, Clayton Salisbury, Lillie Johnson, Janet Southworth, Joyce Klein, and Joyce Goodson, But We also gained Joe Olmstead, Brian Barre, Marilyn Gunther, and Kenneth Anderson, All other years were fun, but our junior year was the greatest of all, To lead us through this crowded year, we elected as President, Philip Quackenbushg Vice-President, Richard Woolleyg Secretary, Audrey Vairg Treasurer, Judy Carney: Reporter, Kay Urben, and Student Council Representatives, Rosemary Hutchings, Alyn Hughes and Ronnie Mennigg also Joan Kowalski was Secretary of the Student Council this year, We had 54 Juniors in our class. Our first big project this year was to publish the Madka, which, of course, was the greatest ever put out, and also, it was out earlier than in any other year. We made over S500 on the Madka. We also received our class rings, had four dances, a scrap paper drive, our Junior Plays, which played for two nights, and ofcourse, our long -- awaited Junior Prom, The Prom Court included Alyn Hughes, Brian Barre, John Colburn, Ronnie Mennig, Joe Nassimos, Joe Olmstead, Judy Carney, Lila Morris, Marilyn Gunther, Amy Bigelis, Linda Vaughn, and Rosemary Hutchings. Chosen to be king was Joe Nassimosg the queen was Rosemary Hutchings. Our theme for the Prom was Hawaiian Nights. Bob Matteson joined our group this year, but at the end of the year we lost Ted Esch, Brian Barre, Kay Urben and Patricia Skuoon, That trip was getting much closer, Finally we began our senior year. Our officers were as follows: President, Philip Quackenbushg Vice President, Charleen Bakerg Secretary, Audrey Vairg for the fourth year as treasurer, Judy Carneyg and Student Council Representatives, Mary Williams, Rosemary Hutchings, Joe Nassimos and John Colburn: Ronnie Mennig was Vice-Presi- dent of the Student Council this year, With 50 seniors in our group, we started off the year with a great magazine sale program, selling over S1400 worth of magazines and making S504 profit. This was the highest amount that had ever been sold, We also had four successful dances, a scrap paper drive, ice cream sales, the apple machine, and our Senior Play. The wonderful day finally came when we boarded the bus for Washington, The trip was worth all the hard work we had done for it. The greatest reward for those four years, of course, was that day in June when we received our diplomas. That was probably one of the happiest and yet saddest days in our lives. Prophecy It is a warm and sunny day at Madison and I, Audrey Vair, have arrived early to attend our class reunion. I see the first person to arrive is our old class presi- dent, Phil Quackenbush. Phil now owns Quack's Diner Inc., with branches from coast to coast. With him is his personal secretary, Judy Carney. Next to arrive are several of Madison Central School teachers. Dick Woolley is now principal with Mary Williams as his secretary, Joan Kowalski teaches kindergarteng John Colburn is the boys' gym instructor Qand the latest craze among the high school girlsg The new French teacher too-la-lap is Charlene Baker, the high school English teacher is June Smith, and the school nurse is Pat Stone. Camillia Marris has made reservations for quite a few of the class members at her motel, It is the motel that is spread out for two miles on Route 20. Arriving now is Mrs. Tom Juliam, our old classmate Rosemary Hutchings. She and her husband now own a successful resort in Florida. Next to come are Laurie Coon QMrs. Bruce Carrolly and Beverly De Rocco. It's good to see that Laurie and Bev are still great friends. Who is this arriving now? Why it is Nancy Gratton QMrs. Clayton Hutchings.J It's nice that Nancy and Clayton could be back from their tour of Europe in time for our reunion. What is all this commotion? Why, it's Lyn Gunther QMrs, J. Livermorej and her twin boys! Next to arrive are Larry Carroll, Bill Pickerd, and Wayne Russell who jointly own a very successful dairy farm. Also some of our other farmers Ken Anderson, Charlie Campbell, Dave Lollman and Dale Smith have just arrived with their families. Here comes an important man, the famous auto designer, Frank Ferguson with his secretaries, Nancy Parker, Brenda Williams, Barb Samson, and Sandy Kemp. Arriving now are the operators of another successful enterprise, and the G. F.J, Beauty Salon fGriffiths, Fredericks, and Johnson.J We are sorry to hear that three of our class members will not be present since they are presently on their way to the moon. They are Richard Fredericks, and his assistants Amy Bigelis and Dave Fairchild. Also two other members not able to her here are Kenny Dake and Gerry Austin, who are making careers of the service, Now the successful owner of Hughes' Appliance Store is Alyn Hughes with Gary Relf as his partner. Gary and Alyn and their families have just arrived. I see we have two nurses arriving. Is someone sick? Why they're old class- mates, Lila Morris and Linda Vaughn. Also just arriving are the owners of a large garage in southern New York: Bob Matteson, Dick Southworth, Doug Strong, Marvin Sitts, and Bernie Skopinsky, Last, but not least, to arrive are our four handsome playboys: Fred Hutchings, Gary Pickard, Joe Nassimos and Joe Olmstead, We would like to thank the policeman for doing such a wonderful job directing traffic. Well, glory be, it's Ronnie Mennig, Madison's policeman. It is nice to see the old familiar faces of the members of my graduating class but now it is time I joined the others.
