MADILL HIGH SCHOOL 1979-1980 2 4 In Loving Memory Daniel Heath Orr September 27, 1970-March 19, 1980 He was such a happy child, and he filled our lives with joy; Oh! the days of love and fun we had, with that little boy. We remember him as he was, so happy and so carefree; He made life more enjoyable, for those like you and me. And in our thoughts and memories, he never will be gone; Although, his life on earth with us, lasted, not very long. So there's only two weeks of school left, and then I'm out in the big world. Can't wait until graduation night . . . it's gonna be great. I'll cruise up front, grab that diploma, say Thanks buddy , and run. Suppose I don't know where I'm running to, though. Begore, all I did was follow the rest of those darn row- dies. I knew I could always find some- one at a game, a party, MacDonalds, or chowing down at the Canteen after school. But, now it's going to be differ- ent. We're all going to take off and try to make it on our own. Listen to this joke-letting graduation get to him after twelve years of being a hard guy. Oh geez . . . yeah, it's time to make the scene in class . . . guess I might even miss that when it's over. Check ya later buddy! Thanks, see ya, bye. It's graduation and it's unbelieveable that I'm here. They'll call my name in a few minutes, and I'll walk up to receive my diploma . . . Where do I go from there? I've always had the security of the school routine and its activities, sur- rounded by the friends I was so familiar with. Now we'll all be going in different directions, and I wonder how long it will be before the memories that meant so much start to fade. After 12 years of this, you would think I would be ready to move on, but I feel like I'm leaving a part of me behind. Maybe that's good though, because I really have changed in the three years that I've been here. Well, pretty soon they'll get to my name. Then I'll be up there, and it'll be all over. In a way, I guess everything's really just beginning. 31 It is hard to believe that 12 years of formal educa- tion now draws to a close. We have searched for many things: truth, loyalty, devotion, self-esteem, and the ability to accept people as they are. May we forever search for the meaning of life and sharing. We have found our Emerald City, ourselves, and our friends and now we must say ... Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The Madill Chapter of the National Honor So- ciety proved to be a very active organization dur- ing the school year 1979-80. They took care of business matters such as attending the State N.H.S. Convention held at Duncan, OK, and holding the induction of new members. They also provided activities for the school which in- cluded the Halloween Dance, talent show, and $100.00 scholarship for a Senior. The 1979-80 Drama Club has had a successful and busy year. The first performance was the puppet show that was held for the elementary at Christmas. Their grand finale was their School play, titled, The Night of January 16th. The production was a speech drama class project with the help and cooperation of the Drama Club. Now ... The End • • • Very few of us will long remember the day homecoming was on; the score of the final basketball game for the year; or how to formalize the final draft of a research paper. What we will remember is the closeness that has developed between the members of the class of 1980. We will never forget the hard work on the homecoming float, taking first in spirit week, announcements, close friends, gladness of graduation and fear of the unknown. During our senior year we have had our share of fun and we added much to the economy of our community from hay hauling, jockeying gas, and working in stores and offices. If one word could be used to describe the class of 1980 it would be involvement. Our total commitment to involvement was witnessed by homecoming, returning Christmas to Madill High School, and securing a sign for the new high school. We will take the word involvement with us into our new lives. We will become involved in government, education and humanity. We aim at the stars in our ideas of making the world a better and more meaningful place in which to live and work. We have these ideas and hopes as we leave the old and take on the new. It seems strange that in a few short weeks we will leave behind our familiar surroundings and will go to strange new places. We know that next fall juniors and sophomores will carry on old and tried traditions in some new way. We leave you with these few words: What lies before us and what lies behind us are small matters when compared to what lies within us.
