Sharing in the recognition with Williams are Tammy Parrish (center) and Donna Edmonds, two members of the class participating in the project. tmsemssf? m?ss m smmms Students of Dave Williams’ history class are sharing a bit of Presidential recognition as the result of a project completed last spring. The class, then eighth graders, paid trib- ute to the outstanding events of American history by fashioning a huge mural on high- lights of U. S. Presidents. The 30-foot mural dominated the classroom wall. In the aftermath of that mural effort, a picture and newspaper clipping found its way to Washington. Eventually, the effort came to the attention of President Carter. In a letter dated April 27, the President recognized and commended the work. “To the Students of Mr. Williams’ American History Class: “It was a pleasure for me to receive your school work. I know that you put in much time and effort into this special proj- ect and you can be proud of the fine re- sults.” Sincerely, “Jimmy Carter” The recognition, and a picture of the president, make this the only group of ninth graders in the Madill school system to ever enter high school with a Presidential com- mendation. 47 Ralph Binder Karla Beasley Mike Browers Eighth Grade 1976-77 Linda Beckham Terry Burchfield Gaye Burton Terry Christie Lisa Colby Travis Crowe Jena Conrad Billy Downey Shann Courtney Wade Edwards Christine Cox Mark Eppler Lisa Davis Steve Eppler Mary Easley Karla Edmonds Karl Gonzalez Paula Eldridge Mark Graham Rhonda Emmons jane Ewing Luke Hare Rhonda Fowler Perry Harper Teresa France Ricky Gibson Renny Grizzard |udi Garreti Craig Howell Kelly Gilliam Damon Ishmael Selina Green Damon Johnson Donna Harris Joe Johnson Rachell Frank Clara Gipson Carl Hines Stewart Jacks I Patty Higgins Steven Landgraf Sherry Hill Benny McClendon Mary Horne Tony McSwain Nelda Howard Dicky Melton Janna Howe Ricky Miller Kim Jones Gary Moore Lou Lee Sam Morgan Lana McMasters Mike Muncrief Elizabeth Manning Robert Polster Teresa Miller Rodney Polster Ginger Morgan Jiles Pruitt Amelia Morrison Dan Reeves Meredith Muncrief David Riggs Kathy Newcomb Craig Roberts Lauri Pate Gene Roberts Elizabeth Pittman William Roberts Regina Rice Byron Self Diana Roberts David Scott lulie Saxon Doug Smithson Terry Scruggs Eric Smiley )oAnn Shoemaker Bobby Stevens 5 J Carey Smith Mark Stowers Tammy Smith Jeffery Taylor Twana Sprouse Richard Taylor Jill Stafford Darrel Thomison Donna Stuckey Steven Turner Patti Wade Tony Wallace Sheryl Weldon Lanie Wilkins David Rushing Becky Vaughn Alan Wallace k S2 Brett Allen Sharon Baber David Ayres Carol Beasley Joe Bob Avery Tony Bigger Barbara Binder Parris Bloomfield Carla Bruse Jirl Buck Felicia Carnes Kenny Cass julie Carter Shawn Cavallo Karen Cline Ernie Chapman Eddie Christie Cookie Childs Darrell Daniel Natalie Combs Robert Davis 54 Benny Downey Sharon Edmonds Eugene Earley Twila Gentle Michael Ezell Greg Dunn Twila Goodwin Mark Edwards Shelly Gorrell jay Elza Robert Gibson joe Gibson Scott Gipson Kim Harrison Willie Griffin Cynthia Hembree Curley Hare Richard Harper Lisa Hocdebeck jeff Huddleston julie Huebsch Tim Knight 55 Melissa Huff Kody Lockhart Mitchell Mays Lisa Huffman Tana Huskey Ricky Minor Jimmie Morgan Lisa Lesley Bridgctte Maupin Mike Murphy Paula McBeth Richard Lamascus Jessie Lambert Shelley McCustion Brad O’Neal Shannon McDearmon Tammie Muncrief Mike Orr Bill Pate Sylvia Lamb Barbara Nes Smith Chris Payne Kevin Peoples Denise Phillips Finding our Place in fhe Sun at IUIHS 56 Eddie Posey Jane Price Eric Powell Andy Price Irene Sanders Scott Pruitt Laurie Shaw Richard Putman Lisa Shaw Jeffrey Robertson Bradley Rogers Stephanie Smiley Lee Ross Timothy Ross Donna Smith Basil Savage Dock Shoemaker Myrna Taylor Danny Wilson Patty Stevens Bert Tickel Travis Trammell Linda St. Clair Mike Stonebarger Randy Swilling Ronald Teague 57 Preserve your memories . . . use them .... dare to dream ffellowship of old friends 7th graders going to National Jr. Honor Society All our classes work together to make it a gJ year. This new gym proved to be quite an advan- tage for coaches Don Hudson and Lavon Hicks. The students, faculty and the public all enjoyed this great new building. New faces, equipment, and strategy proved to be assets to the already strong team. Coach Don Hudson worked hard with his team to make it one of the best years the girls basketball team has ever enjoyed here at MHS. Our new gym is one of the reasons Madid’s girls are off to a good start this season. aKD X 124 125 TEAMS HAVE A GREAT YEAR 19 Nearly 60 teams competed in the Madill annual Wildcat Relays. Madill's junior high boys finished second behind Marietta's junior high squad and the Madill High School girls finished third. On the seam is where Madill baseball coach tells junior third baseman and pitcher, Tommy O'Steen, to grip the old pill. Our team had an outstanding baseball season this year by winning nine out of fifteen games. A full calendar of girls’ track events included meets at Tishimingo, Pauls Valley, Healdton, Marietta, and Ardmore. 128 Madill Public School Administration We have had a very fine school year at the Madill Junior High. This was only made possible through the co-operation of all the student organizations, teachers and the stu- dent body. In the coming school year we want to improve even more, we want to have one of the best schools in the State of Oklahoma. Sincerely, Russell Bradley Being a newcomer, I feel that I can be objective in my appraisal of Madill High School. I have found the student body and faculty to be extremely cooperative and friendly. To say the least, I have been very impressed with the Madill High School. The warm, friendly atmosphere is appreciated. The cooperative eager response to a new principal has been very encour- aging. Everyone seems to want a quality school, this certainly adheres to my philosophy of education. Hopefully in the years to come, I can provide the leadership necessary for Madill High School to give each of you a well rounded education, helping you learn to think in a mature way. May I take this opportunity to com- pliment the student body on a very fine school year. We are proud of the many honors won in curriculum meets and music and art contests. We are also pleased with the fine showing in our athletic department, both girls and boys, at the junior-senior high level as well as our elementary school. We have realized the dream of a fine new gymnasium and will shortly begin construc- tion of a new library. I would like to say Best Wishes” to- the seniors as they embark on new horizons and hope their memories of MHS will be pleasant in the years to come and the associ- ations and training they have received here be beneficial to them as they endeavor to compete in the world of work or education. I have enjoyed working with the stu- dents, the faculty and staff, and the Board of Education of Madill Schools this past year as your superintendent and look for- ward to returning next year. BOARD OF EDUCATION HAS VISION FOR FUTURE Board of Education members Robert Watts, Mona Mae Waymire, John Pierce, Dan Coe, Leroy Davis (retired) and new member Judy Trammell made long-range plans for the future of MHS. The Board and all the Administrators have approved plans for a new library, addi- tional classrooms, new busses, changes in the curriculum, a wrestling program, renovation of elementary auditorium, the new LD Program, etc. With the completion of the new library expected this fall, it would appear that their visions of the future are indeed becoming a reality. The faculty, student body and members of the community are grateful for their interest and help. I would like to express my appreciation to everyone in the High School and junior High for the fine association we had during the past seven years. Overall, I believe we had the best group of students and teachers anywhere. I want to wish you the best of everything in the years to come. Have a happy life. J. M. Ayres v «'V- nayyy iu wuium Mrs. Judy Trammell as member of the Board c Education. We truly fc she will be a great asset t our school in forming plan for the future. The new MHS principal, Bill Villines and his wife, Lawana, are formerly of Abilene, Texas. It has been a pleasant experience to work with both of them. Mrs. Villines is working as secretary to Mr. Bradley in the Junior High. They have been a great help to the faculty and students in the school. Mr. McAdoo, Administrative Assistant to the superintendent has worked hard this year on Federal Programs which bring in federal monies. Mr. McAdoo also helps with transportation, state reports, surveys, etc. that are asked for by the State Department. Mr. McAdoo attends meetings throughout the state. The Johnson O’Malley Indian Oklahoma Program is also one of his many inter- ests. In addition to traditional classroom work, Madill High School teachers enjoyed many other school-oriented activities during the year. A few of the good times are caught for our memories. A few of these activities are graphi- cally portrayed in this section. A SUPER SPECIAL THANKS goes to Mr. Hull, a truly great adminisiiator. He has helped us all and he has shown us that we should appreciate the things that come hard as well as those that come easily. Mr. Hull, we all sincerely thank you for your help. Mr. Bradley seems to always be there when we need him most.
