Too often, when a great coach retires his greatness is measured by only one statistic ... his number of victories. Coach Cheadle does not need such a statistic. He is great for better reasons. Not only has he ex- celled as a coach, he is also an outstanding history teacher. He has touched the lives of many young men in this high school. In short, Mr. Cheadle, you will always be a part of our cherished memories of MHS. And for this reason we dedicate these pages to you. 2 reflecting 4 5 7 8 9 13 15 16 Seniors Sani Huffman Pres. This was to help prepare us for the fall football season. After school began we elected officers and queen candidates. Kenny Chaffin was elected president with Johnny Carroll, vice-president, and Marti Pate, sec.-treas. and reporter. Karen Slack, Dona Robertson, and Terri Hurst were selected as our queen candidates, the queen being announced at our Spring Concert. Our 80-piece band attended many parades and activities during the school year. First we marched in the parade and halftime festivities of OU Band Day. Second we participated in the Annual State Fair Parade in Oklahoma City. A month later, the marching Wildcat Band proudly displayed its colors as it was featured in a half time performance at Southeastern State College. Later, in December, we appeared in a parade and attended the Rafael Mendez Band Clinic in Ardmore, followed a few weeks later by the second Annual Jaycee Christmas parade in Madill. No band can improve without individual effort. We have many outstanding individuals, with 8 being selected for the All-District Band and 2 for the All-Senior Honor Band at East Texas State. For the next 3 months we worked hard for concert season. In early March we made our first appearance. It was in Ardmore at the Pre-District contest, followed 2 weeks later by District Contest at Southeastern State College. Here we also competed individually in solos and ensembles, qualifying 18 for state competition. On March 24, we again donned our marching attire and competed with other bands in the Ardmore Shrine Rodeo parade. Showing our fierce WILDCAT PRIDE, we marched away with first place. To close our busy season, we presented our Spring Concert in late April. Although we are losing 9 seniors, we are anxiously tooking forward to next year’s band. 73 Seven Win District Honors Seniors Wind Up High School Band Career Officers Pres. Kenny Chaffin Vice Pres. Most will judge our success by the rec- ord, but the true success will be realized by the young men who learned what a combination of desire, dedication, and unity can mean in their chosen fields of endeavor. Our se- niors will be missed, but the mark they leave on Wildcat football will not be forgotten. The many years of work they sacrificed will be an example to follow in years to come. It was my pleasure to work with this team. For those who criticize the youth of today, they need only to associate with a group such as this to realize the true potential we have in this country. Starting with an afternoon parade, the day’s activities were capped with coronation ceremonies for the 1970 Football Queen. Winner of the honor was Miss Nolona Crowson—a Madill high school senior. I would like to thank each boy who participated on our Wildcat Basketball team this year. We had a very poor sea- son according to our record, but I feel that each boy re- ceived something that can be of benefit to him in the fu- ture. Attitude wise, this group was the finest that I have ever coached. We had our problems during the year, but everything was worked out. It takes a well dedicated person to keep on working hard during practice and not receive the glory of winning during the season.
