THE MADILL WILDCAT PUBLISHED BY THE MADILL HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL STAFF OF 1960 SCHOOL SONG Our voices raise in praising you, M. H. S. , Our school, our team, the Black and Gold-- Wherever we may be. Oh dear M.H.S. Your colors we will e'er uphold; As hand in hand we stand for you, M. H. s., We'll lift a shout of love to thee. With hope gone, we'll fight on, All for you, through and through. We'll end our song in victory. Within your halls, the walls We'll mark up to rest the victor's sign And leave enscrolled Within our hearts a part of you, M. H. S., To live to laud the Black and Gold. Our joys, our tears, the years we spend, M. H. S., May fade to pleasant memory. But we'll be, endlessly, all for you. Through and through We'll sing our song of love to thee. We, the students of Madill High School, believe in purity of living obedience to authority, courteous manners, achievement through effort, loy- alty, service and integrity of character. We believe in living up to the best that is within us at all times; whether alone or with many, and in keeping faith with ourselves, our homes, our school, our city, our country, and our God. HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES Our High School years will soon be past. But we have memories that will last and last. Memories of all that we have done. Each time we lost; Each time we won; We'll never forget the joys we've known. Or the kindness our school has shown. The help of a teacher; The smile of a friend These are the memories that never end. -Anita Edwards DEDICATION We the members of the Wildcat Staff wish to dedicate this copy of the Madill Wildcat to the seniors of the past who once filled these halls but have gone on to fill more important positions. To the seniors of the present for their final record toward their goal in high school-- their senior year--and their satisfaction of a job well done. To the future seniors who in years to come will fill the halls of M. H. S., the Seniors of 1960 leave their Motto, Onward-Upward.” THE ANNUAL STAFF OF 1960 PRAISING YOU M.H.S. OUR TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT CUSTODIANS Mr. Les Sons, Mr. Fred Shipley SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE To Mr. Woods, the sponsor, and the student staff, who have worked so diligently and well on this annual, my sincere congratulations. To the student body and faculty, my congratulations on the splendid achievement you have shown during this school year. Such achievement is possible only when we develop the attitude toward our school program that will assure each of us striving to achieve up to our maximum potential. I think this faculty and student body have come very, very close to this goal. My hope is that each of you may turn back to this annual in latter years and relive for a moment the happy and profitable experiences that we have all shared here. Yours sincerely, J. B. Fox, Jr. Superintendent PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Congratulations to Mr. Woods, and the annual staff for the 1959-60 edition of “The Wildcat.” I think it is excellent. To the student body and faculty let me also offer congratulations, and thanks for a job well done. This has been a prosperous school year. Our student body has reached new heights in progress and achievement. I encourage every student to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered you. Our time of living has also reached new heights in industry and business, and it behooves each student to prepare himself in such a manner that he is equipped to stay abreast of the times. Educational opportunity is also at a peak. Do not let these opportunities go unheeded. Do not be content with things as they are, but work diligently to improve the world for our generation, and for those to come. Sincerely, Kenneth O. Hoyt Principal Pictured Above. BOARD OF EDUCATION TRIBUTE: We, the Wildcat Staff, speak for the entire student body in expressing our gratitude and appreciation to you for making this school year the best ever. We realize that without your help, co-operation, and understanding, our education could not be completed. We are looking forward with anticipation to the day when we can see the new buildings which have been made possible through your interest in the education of tomorrow's youth. Mere words cannot express our sincere feelings for you. All we can say is an humble thank you. YEARBOOK STAFF OF 1960 MRS. CHLOE SARTIN Social Studies B.A., Southeastern MRS. You stood by us during all our little troubles, always lent a hand during times of sorrow and you were the first to congratulate us when we achieved success. BREAK TIME I’LL NEVER MAKE IT ALL STATE FOOTBALL This page is deciated to George Stokes who has taken part in football, basketball and track throughout junior high and senior high in Madill. George, “the wit” was playing first string tackle his freshman year. He was a mere 5’ 11“ tall and only weighed 180 pounds! Tackle was his position in high school, too. He played first string defense his sophomore year and was first string offense and defense his junior and senior years. Making All-State was his reward for his efforts in football. George didn’t make the tip in basketball until his junior year. He played second string his freshman year and was on the “B“ team his sophomore year. Stoke’s favorite shot is a “hook” or “jump” and with the aid of these “Junior” has, so far this year, a 13 point average. George has racked up 210 points last year and has scored 123 points this year. In track, long, tall Stokes likes to throw the discus and the shot-put. Stokes will be going to Oklahoma University next year, to play football with the sooners, with a full scholarship. WHO ARE THEY ? Actually we really begin to branch off into what we like best and find more pleasure in doing while in Junior High. We. the students of M. H. S. feel that you have done a very fine job in giving us a start in what we are to later choose as an occupation. Without your help and guidance success would be a thing that would come to far fewer people. You the starters of our education are to be congratulated far more than mere words can express. You hold the noblest job to be had among men and are doing a very fine job. You should be very proud of yourselves, for we at senior high certainly are.
