One of Block M’s main contributions to this school is the week of Homecoming, where they are in charge of the whole week’s activities. The Mediterranean Club is Truly International The 105 member Mediterranean Club was designed to help students of different backgrounds learn and experience their cultures. The advisor, Mr. Pia, is well experienced, in that he teaches French, Italian, and Spanish, and has visited many of the Mediterranean countries. Some of the club’s events of this year have been, a Christmas dance and food drive in December, and a dinner dance and field trip in the spring. The club has also helped in making International Week a huge success. In addition, the club has raised money to possibly give scholarships to deserving seniors. ‘ The American Way’’ This theme, along with the colors, red, white, and blue, started ideas popping in the minds of the students, and all four classes began working on their Homecoming floats. Other groups, such as Freshman Horizon, C.S.F., F.F.A., and the Mexican- American Club, joined in the fun and each created a float for competition. The night of the Homecoming football game, spectators viewed the hard work that was put into the colorful floats as they paraded around the track. The floats varied from a scene of the Civil War acted out by three coyotes with flashing red eyes, to the Present day with the typical American Male watching Monday night football on the television. In the competition of the floats between the classes, the Juniors took the high honor of first, with Sophomores coming in second and the Seniors in third. The Highlight of the evening, as always, was the crowning of the queen. The finalists, Kari Kirk, Jody Salazar, Claudine Sagouspe, and Elaine LaMattina, were escorted in the traditional style by selected Block M members. In the final moments of this years Homecoming, the President of Block M, Randy Root, crowned Elaine LaMattina as the 1974 Homecoming Queen. The spellbinding excitement of Homecoming sparked the Coyotes into a fantastic win as they aced the McLane Highlanders 15-0. cae tad 4 4 ey im : a Top: “What do you mean! can’t tie a shoe?” Middle left: A pint-sized car for pint-sized Freshman.
