Trips And Trash Lead Biology Club Year The Biology Club is designed for those who have or have had biology, and are interested in expanding their knowledge as well as involvement in this area. Ecology was a big area of activity as bi-monthly recycling trips to the Madera Glass Plant were undertaken by members and sponsors. In fact, membership required that each person bring 2 bags of aluminum cans or glass bottles each month for the recycling trips. Recyclables were also collected from various apartments (in special green bins) as the club tried to involve the community in the recycling effort. More pleasurable activities involved a bike trek to Fresno State University to see the habitat museum and the Ag Farm as well as the Renaissance Fair. Members were carted back home in Mr. Tinkle’s truck. The Highlight of the year involved as ill- fated field trip to Morro bay where the tide pool life (tubeworms, Sea anemones, etc.) was taken in. The injured bus broke down west of Kerman and if it were not for a friendly farmer with transmission fluid, the trip might have become an uncomfortable overnight freeze-out. A wild flower trip helped sophomores fill their collections and get closer to nature. President of the Biology Club was Leticia Munoz. Mark Guglielmana served as Treasurer, while Joyce Nishimoto was Secretary. Advisors for the club were Mr. Tinkle, and Mrs. Sierra. Above left; Dianne Krahenbuhl sorts cans and bottles for a recycling trip. Two members of the club, Jill Machado and Greg Morgan, disect a frog to learn more about the internal structures. Club members also contribute their service to the community in various ways. We learn about the many different fields of medicine by inviting guest speakers to come and explain what they actually do in their jobs. Some of the speakers we have had this year include Mr. Bob Olsen, Maternity Nurse Specialist at Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Tyndal, a representative of the Candy Stripers program at Mader: Community Hospital was also a speaker. We also go on field trips in order to better see how a hospital functions. This year we took a tour of Valley Medical Center. Then to wind up the year, we awarded two-$50 scholarships to two eligible seniors intending to pursue a medical career. Cecilia Cazares President cy ATAS Mrs. Vera Johnson; Advisor and School Nurse. Mona Mendez and Lisa Vander Laan listen attentively to a guest speaker on nursing at one of the activity meetings. CHEMISTRY CLUB CHEMISTRY JUNIORS— oe One of the new clubs formed this year was the Chemistry Club. This club was assembled for the purpose of interested chemistry students to be able to take field trips as a group. The advisor of this club, Ms. Cadenazzi, also helps in creating an interest by the mere fact that she teaches Chemistry here at school. Their first trip took them to Berkeley to visit the Science Department and view its Bevatron. They have also sent two of their members as representatives to Davis for a Science Symposium which was held in the spring. Sy . i Re Left to Right Front Row: R. Adolphson, J. Bishel, N.
