GIRL’S LEAGUE Magazine Sales Bolster Girls’ League Year Girl’s League did a lot this school year to add some spark by arranging various activities for the students. They also did many service projects for the school, community, and individuals. The service projects this year included putting an individualized program together for the Math Department, making Christmas cards for two convelescent homes, sponsoring two individuals to the special olympics, and making rock paper weights for teachers. For those of you who do not know what Girl’s League is, it’s a service organization which any girl at Madera High can join, and is led by advisor, Miss Taylor. They also sponsored the Christmas Ball and Blossom Week. Blossom Week was a week in the spring in which many activities took place during the lunch hours. These included the “Mr. Cool” contest in which the goal was to see who could melt a block of ice the fastest by sitting on it, the “Mr. Irresistible” contest, a fashion show where the girls modeled their spring dresses, and to wind up the week, the Blossom Day Dance, or Backwards Dance, which many people attended and had a good time. At the end of the year, they awarded scholarships to a couple of girls who had been very active in Girl’s League and were deserving. The money in their scholarship fund was made through their annual magazine subscription drive in the middle of the year, which was successful.
