FGREIGN LANGUAGE The Language Department at MUHS offers four languages. Spanish, German, French, and Latin. This year MUHS installed a modern lan- guage laboratory with the help of match- ing funds from the federal government under the National Defense Education Act. The lab has 36 student booths, equipped with headphones and microphones for lis- tening and repeating what one hears from the master tape. The student's voice is amplified with the microphone so that he can hear himself. Four of the booths have tape recorders for listening, repeating, recording and com- paring speech with the master tape. The console, operated by the instructor, has two tape players, one phonograph and outlets for two more taped sources so that five programmed lessons can be provided at one t1me. From the console the instructor can listen and communicate with individual students and correct them, or the instructor may instruct a certain group of students. Mr' Burke A total of 935 students are taking foreign languages. W .,,....,.., , g L F J , 1 ,iff as N H . , V l ,.,,f, .1 Q9 , , fr . fr e. s r .i .. A K It ff V , T 7 5955 if QF' 'XG , .
