VICE PRINCIPAL School life can be a challenging and happy experi- ence or a dull and unpleasant one, whichever we choose. This applies to the student, classroom teacher, or administrator. I try to take the posi- tive approach to school life. The young people of today must think positively about the future and be working toward certain objectives and goals. The high school student, or the adult, without daily and life goals will be un- happy with himself and the world around him. Gauge your own abilities and interests--do not try to fit yourself to someone else's pattern. Then plan accordingly No doubt you have all at sometime been disciplined for deviating from the accepted standards of be- havior. If you are honest with yourself, you will admit that such discipline was for your own good and the good of all. Outside discipline is neces- sary --eventual self-discipline is the hope of those doing the disciplining. In school life and beyond school, we cannot avoid responsibility--to our- selves and to others. Unfortunately, some people think that there is something radically wrong with the youth today. I do not subscribe to this idea. Young people today have as much ability, as many worthy desires and commendable motives as young people have always had. Inaddition they have a greater general knowl- edge than ever before. These are trying times-- even at the level of school life--but I believe that you have, and will continue to, meet whatever challenges are presented. SUPERINTENDENT ... I view education as the most important subject we as people can be engaged in. This statement by Abraham Lincoln is as true today as when uttered a hundred years ago. Our philosophy of government, democracy, is based upon the utmost development of the individual through education in a free society. Your education should enable you to acquire useable knowledge, form useful skills, develop an openness of mind, strengthen your self-discipline, and in- crease your sense of responsibility toward yourself, your family, and your fellow man. This education does not come about in some easy, effortless way-- you must work to attain it. Are you working for it? RINALDO WREN Time Progressed, Everything Was Ready. But...

ADMINISTRATORS ROBERT MACHADO SANFORD GROVER CURRICULUM AND GUIDANCE Counseling makes high school life a happy and benefiting experi- ence for all students. It takes into consideration the basic educa- tional, social and vocational needs, and abilities of each individual student and then tries to meet these needs through the school's curriculum and activities. Through individual student conferences, parent conferences, pro- gram planning conferences, teacher conferences and testing, the needs of each student are determined. Remembering each individ- ual's needs and ability, good counseling will then try to place each student where he will have a maximum chance for success and en- joyment while in school. To be in classes which are no challenge is discouraging but to be ina class with a realistic challenge is rewarding. These rewards are a result of counseling which makes for a long-remembered and happy school life. DEAN OF GIRLS To help freshman girls decide on their educational goals, to co- ordinate assembly and club activities, to arrange an activity pro- gram open to all girls, and to counsel with girls who desire help-- these are the duties and opportunities of a dean of girls in our high school. AUXILIARY SERVICES Diversification these days, whether it involves practices in agri- culture, a variety of business skills, or the breadth of knowledge demanded ofa scientist, modern education is no exception as teach- ers and administrators pursue their daily assignments. The personification .of diversification, for example, is the teacher ofa one-room school. You name it. She teaches it. Even the large school system teachers have heavy preparation loads--some- times four or five different subjects of different grade levels of one or two subjects. So it is with administrators. As a member of the administrative staff, Mr. Grover, director of auxiliary services, serves both students and teachers in a wide variety of ways. The students look to him for job placement for part time work, publicity of their schoolevents, work permits, 1.D. cards, publication of the fresh- man handbook, spring programing of incoming frosh, setting up special events such as college night, armed forces day, open houses, and offering counsel to those having dropped out who wish to continue of a correspondence basis. The Degenerates, the Students Came.
