A dvisor Foreword . . . , Most young people in America during the course of their growing up, spend four years in the public high schools. During this time, the mingling of people produces many and lasting friendships, terminated by the commence- ment exercises held in June. After these commencement exercises, some 180 students here at Madera High will shake hands, say goodbye, and part to go their various ways, many never to meet again. We present, in this '54 Blue and White, a pic- torial rev11e of the school year, in hopes that it will serve to renew acquaintances and bring familiar faces and incidents to life again for you in years to come. - Your Editor Mx my wa 34' . A parent at the first open house held for this building remarked that young . , . M E V 1. Fi C. people today fail to appreciate the structures now being erutr d for their it ueation. This fairly common belief bears much thought. ' Y ? , I Being a large organization certainly doesn't hinder the activities of the versatile Girls' League any. Again this year, the squaws of MUHS made their group come through with programs like: Slave Day, the Blossom Day Festival, the Girls' League Picnic, and for the first time this year, the Mother- Daughter party. On the service end of the activi- ties, one of the most noteworthy feats of the club was the paying of the postage charges on the books collected by MUHS students to send to Iapan. The coveted Girls' League Pin, a symbol if outstanding service to the high school ldoing .hings around the campus that no credit is given for in classl, instigated the performance of many iaily chores by the girls. Such is one of the many services established and perpetuated by the Girls' Qeague. - Vu ft to right: Jeri Kennedy, Gina J xrtinelli, Lucille Inami, Patsy Birch, anna Sambueso.
