MR. L. C. THOMPSON I am particularly pleased that the “Class of 1947” finds satisfaction in using, “The Golden Anniversary of Madera Union High School,” as the theme for their year book, The Purple and White. Since that memorable day four years ago when the present graduates staged a Freshman Assembly second to none, it has been obvious to those of us who have seen students come and go, that here is a group who have energy to spare, willingness to serve, and resourcefulness to meet any occasion. This group of 184 individuals, the largest graduating class, will bring the total number of Madera Union High School graduates past the 3,000 mark. The first fifty years of growth in our high school have seen difficult times, but today future progress is assured. Without effort, our section of the great ms ® State of California is the mecca for thousands from the less agreeable parts of our Country. We would not dare guess what another half century will do to that fortunate portion of the San Joaquin Valley called Madera, but we do venture to say that the graduates of 1947 will assume a decisive role in that P stirring episode of progress and history waiting to become a living thing. L. C. THOMPSON, Principal.
