Foreword BEE PLUS “Tf one were able to grade a school year in its relation to former ones, I would be compelled to mark 1945-1946 as definitely better than average. October found our spirits high in football, encouraged by student interest, a tough schedule, and a determined squad. Christmas holiday time was a welcome relaxation for a star senior play cast, the finalists in Girl's Archery, and for the ever-popular Var- sitonians. The New Year wakened and blinked at green but surprisingly good basketball teams, a gayly bedecked F.F.A. dance, and such successful functions as the Carnival and Junior Dance, while the Scholarship Society boasted an increase in’membership. As Easter peeped over a jagged shell, students were posing for the P. and W. pic- tures, our track team had just won another dual meet, the baseball nine had finished the best season in years, the tennis swingsters were disturbing people with their reports of victories, while the Pan American Student Forum hit a new high in their annual Fiesta. It sounds like boasting and it is boasting about a school year climaxed by a Sen- ior Reception to be remembered as a grand recital of vocal and instrumental music interspersed with interpretative oe “ dances. - s = Yes, it was an “A” year, but to ‘ pe give another year a chance, we are willing to settle for a “Bee Plus.” You graduates of 1946 played a de- cisive part in this year’s successes and we who stay on at Madera Union High School will be hoping and believing that you can and will continue to play decisive parts in the numerous activities beyond high school.” MR. L. C. THOMPSON, Principal

Dedication It is with sincere gratitude and appreciation that we, the graduating class of 1946, are dedicating this publication to Miss Elizabeth Stoddard. During our four eventful years here at Madera High, Miss Stoddard has devoted much of her time and energy in solving the many problems which have confronted us. She has always greeted us with a happy smile and has given us her undivided attention at all times. The community has always benefitted by Miss Stoddard’s help, for she has given generously to many worth causes. Many a lonely serviceman beyond both oceans has forgotten his troubles for a little while and was made happy by reading the scrapbooks that Miss Stoddard has sent them. The heart-warming letters that they send her in response, help to express their gratefulness to her. And now, after forty years of successful teaching, nineteen of which were spent here at Madera High, she is planning to retire. We will all miss the kind, thoughtful, and pleasant person that is Miss Stoddard.
