THE VOYAGE We sail forth upon the sea of life Our journey's just begun. Before us now we glimpse our goal As we have never done. We venture forth and fear no fears. The torch is still held high. We hear the distant millions chant. “Do not let it diel To you we toss the burning fire Of Freedom and her cause. Let not the lamp burn low For fear that we shall pause. Sail on across the sea of life And keep our ship still strong. That we may live and love and die And feel no fears for long.” by Jackie Bunce MEMORIES How old mem'ries linger through all times and places! Looking backward we can see dear familiar faces. Precious mem'ries ne'er forgot make the present glorious; Who cares what the future holds? Who cares what's before us? Yes, we do care. Who could help it? No, not we! No one’s tranquil; no one’s happy; Is there one carefree? Young men hasten o’er the ocean; Heed the call of war! Girls whose men have left them Linger by the closing door. Love and laughter? Not just mem‘ries, No, indeed. Warm hearth fires and happy faces friends we need. All of these are now before us; these and many more. Face the future, then, with courage. Open wide the door. Homely tasks await us. Maybe cooking, sewing; such— Lives of service as await us may not seem so much. Doctors, lawyers, some among us go to higher fields. There’s no doubt that we'll be needed. This the future yields. by Betty Jean Dexter
