TO FIGHT THE UNBEATABLE FOE TO REACH THE UNREACHABLE STAR To dream what's never been dreamed before. to think the unthought of. to create an expression of oneself - how great is this infinite gift of the mind, the birthmark of humanity, To probe into the ref cesses of the mind's divine infinity is that great joy of youth. The fire of youth is supplied with the fuel of opti- mism and ideology. The future e the stars. the lights lie ahead. But stop e think tor a momenti What greater DOSSESSiOH exists than the mind. With the mind one can think. love. admire. hate. create. and discover. One can control his own destiny through the unique expression of himself Ail of life's beauty and knowledge is laid before one for the mind to sponge, reshuffle and thereby Create from each priceless piece of life's expres- sion. a new expression, characteristic of oneself. No one should ignore the power and gift of the mind by refusing to peep into life. Look around. Youth! ADLIDIII'ATIAIIAP AIAHFIHA lllAl-l-ll-- 10 QUEST As I look back to my freshman year and think about what my idea of an impossible dream was at that time I realize that my particular dream is just about to become real. As a freshman, l always thought that graduation from high school was an impossible dream But since I am a senior and about to graduate my idea of an impossible dream has changed I now dream about what I will eventually be and witl eventually do for the rest of my life ldream of being a success in college. of gradur ating from college with flying col- ors, and of one day coming back to Madeira High on the other side of the fence, as teacher instead of stu- dent. I also dream that during my teaching years I will have many free summers to do what I please. And what will please me most is to take trips to places all over the world un- til there is no more to see. Then when I am too old to travel any- more. l will sit by the fireside and tell stories of my adventures to my grandchildren - Shirlene Evers 12 Man is above other animals on the evolutionary scale because he has the power to reason. Man aiso possesses the power to hope or dream about the future. Some of man's dreams are easily ful- filled. others seem nearly impossuble. To one of the early pioneers air travel seemed a farfetched idea, how we take it for granted. in 1930. the Depression crushed many dreams. but others sprung up in hoping for a new tomorrow An end to the crippiing wave of polio seemed impossible in 1940. Because man dared to dream, we now have space flight and the miracle of rejuvenation through transplant. Man has yet another impossible dream to fulfiii. Since World War I. World War Ii, the Korean War and now, today. man has shared the same dream: peace Peace need not be an impossible dream, or anything else for that matter. Nothing can be obtained unless it is sought. Whether you seek something as personal as success and fortune or something as universal as peace and equaiity, you must seek it, Only those who faithquy pursue their dreams will ever fulfill them, Seek and ye shall find. e Cheryl Stringer E 4 Lu I 0 Eu: 4.: :9 W cm 00 i-cL E I..I.l I '- $ mil u 11,0 Over, under. around and through For once they got the locker ar- rangement nght. Gosh, we never really ap- preciated a teacher until we had to be one ourselves! Then, Seniors, remember how brave we were when we challenged the entire student body to a paper drivel? How it hurt our ego, when we were defeated. But, then came the poster contest - what a great ti me we had plastering the school walls with unusual signs and sayings; how proud we were when we won! When it came to winning the spirit stick, Seniors were at the top of the list. To display our spirit for ourschool and its athletic program. we made posters and wore shoes that CAROL GILLIE GENE GOES JOY GODWIN HARRISON GREEN PEGGY GRIGG MARK GRUNER LINDA GUENTHNER KENT HAMILTON MARSHALL HAMILTON NANCY HANSON TERRY HARTLEY TERRI HAUER TONI HAUT 91 didntt match. Whatan outstanding school year this has been. There was al- ways something in- teresting going on in which we could all pa rticipate. As the year went on we viewed many different plays and movies such as The Comedy of Errors, Tom Jones, and Ro- sencrantz and Guil- denstern are Dead. Each play had its own original form of pres- entation. It was often quite difficult to try to figure out the deeper meanings of the plays. We tried to make our Senior year a meaninful and profit- able one and we feel KATHY HENDRIX ED HILLMAN that we did. We were JANN JACOBY able to express new and different ideas through a suggestion box.
