Cheerleaders Our Cheerleaders are a vivacious and enthusi- astic group of girls. Both Varsity and junior Varsity squads are made up of six members elected by the student body each spring. Besides their regular duties of leading Cheers at all games, the girls participate in many other spirit bolstering activities. The Cheer- leaders play a major part in planning successful pep rallies. At these pep rallies, the cheerleaders lead cheers, teach new ones, and often present highly original skits. When not cheering at games, practicing, or planning pep rallies, the girls, in co-operation with the Pep Club, can often be seen selling bus tickets to our away games, plastering the walls with posters, or coming up with other gim- micks to generate enthusiasm for our teams Everyone at M.H.S. will surely agree that our Cheerleaders do a great job when it comes to kindling school spirit. l BasketbaH The Mustang quintet, behind the leadership of co-captains Bill Trefzger and Mike Gregg, had a successful season this year. After heart breaking losses to Mariemont and Sycamore, the Mustangs came back and fought hard to win the majority of the games remaining. As for the players, Trefzger led the team in both scoring and rebounding and Gregg stopped many a score by his excellent defensive perfor- mances. Tom Hayman, also a very proliEc scorer, pulled down many clinch rebounds as did Mark Russele a herce competitor. Bill Schmalfuss, the Mustang playmaker, was also very successful in scoring and had Hue offensive play. Mark Ste- venson, an excellent passer and rebounder, was a very conscientious defensive player. Bob Clark, the Mustang center, was also a very good re- bounder and defensive player. 22
