PATTERNS OF THE YEAWACTION IN EVERY MOMENT l96WMNEMONIC MADEIRA HIGH SCHOOL LOANNES DRIVE CINCINNATI, OHIO 2.1.? ng WHERE DOES THE PATTERN BEGIN? The class of 1966 bids farewell to Mr. W. Marshall Seli- man, Superintendent of Madeira Schools. The Mnemonic is a book of remembrances, and for the class of 1956. Mr. Sellmanis friendly leadership will head the list of our memories. Mr. Sellman came to Madeira as a history teacher in 1932. At that time all twelve grades were housed in the building which is now known as the Camargo Primary School. He became Principal of Madeira High School in 1938 and Superintendent of Madeira Schools in 1948. As enrollment has increased, Mr. Sellmaxfs duties have be- come more and more time-consuming, but he has always kept his door open for any teacher'who has a problem or a suggestion for his consideration, Whether the students needed encouragement or challenge, Mr, Sellman has urged teachers to be understanding of their individual needs. Excellence in scholarship, citizenship and leader- ship are the goals he has always held for Madeira students. These are actually his own outstanding traits. Under his leadership, the Madeira Board of Education or- ganized the Madeira Schools Planning Commission, an or- ganization of citizens, teachers and board members, and one of the First of its kind in the state of Ohio. He has worked with this group and others to plan and develop Madeira Schools, which now have well-equipped buildings on four sites, staffed by 99 well-qualified professionals and a student enrollment of more than 2300 students. Mr. Sellman, 1932 history Mr. Sellmanis interest in history has continued through the years with particular interest in Civil War History. He is the author of a book which was published in 1964. It is a history of his home-town-VVinchester, Ohio. His parents still live there. Mr. and Mrs. Sellman live in Mariemont. They are the parents of three daughters and they have five grandchild- ren. After his retirement as Madeira Superintendent, Mr, Sell- man has plans for additional work in some phase of his- tory. Will it be a history textbook with his name as au- thor? Will he write a historical novel? Will he be a. history professor at some college? All these are possible. Whatever Mr. Sellman undertakesJ the class of 1966 know that suc- cess will follow him, and our best wishes, too. Assistant Principal Mr. Frank Lang Assistant Principal of Madeira High School BS. in Ed., University of Cincinnati M.Ed., University of Cincinnati During the sixteen years that Mr. Lang has been at Madeira, his growing responsibilities in all areas have not increased any faster than has student re- spect for him. Certainly one can readily understand the difficulties of serving a dual position as assistant principal and counselor. Likewise, it is just as easy to see the expertness with which Mr. Lang accom- plishes his many duties. He is in charge of the Stu- dent Council, Student Testing Program, and College Admissions Service. One never leaves his office with the feeling of being only partially helped, for Mr. Lang is willing to aid at student as far as that student will place his trust in him. What more can grateful students say than HThank you, Mr. Lang? Principal Mr. Herbert Dericks Principal of Madeira High School BS. in Ed., U. of Cincinnati M.Ed., Xavier University Madeira will always be a top-ranking school with leaders like Mr. Dericks. He came to Ma- deira as a math teacher, and soon proved to be very efficient. He has not confined himself to a mere desk job, but is a frequent visitor to all parts of the campus. He represents Madeira in many important meetings, such as national conventions, area councils, and student assem- blies. The Class of 66 thanks you, Mr. Dericks, for your guidance and patience. Mn.
