FLIGHT 65 Mnemonic 65 Madeira High School Cincinnati 43, Ohio EDUMT'ON anht,65 Through the ages man has built wings for himself in order to escape from the earth into loftier regions. He has sought to free himself from the commonplace, both physically and mentally. The wings by which mental freedom has been attained are the schoolsi Aviation has come a long way since the days of Daedalus and his waxen wings. We are no longer surprised to see a jet soaring overhead or to read of a rocket probing into space. But manis desire for conquest of the skies does not end here. Space research is carried on with more zeal than ever and new discoveries are made almost daily. Thus it is with education. Although schools have changed in many ways since the days of the private tutor and his few select students, progress in education has not now come to a halt. Just as each flight of a jet or rocket provides new data for scientific projects, so each school year, in its own way, is a test flight for perfecting new curriculum and new methods of teach- ing. Education; as weIl as aviation, must continue to progress in order that the wings of knowledge may carry man upward to heights never before attained. The Class of I965 Just as the preparation of a Jet for l:Flightll involves many people and many activities, so the preparation of students for success in future years also involves many people and many activities. The years spent in high school are a time of preparation for our Hight into new worlds. The hours spent in class and in studying, the many experiences of friend- ship and sharing, the time both good and bad2 all are important. For without the knowledge and ideals instilled in us by those who have taught us, we would have no fuel for flight. And without the many activities which we were involved in, we would not have the strength of character to guide our courses straight and true. High school has been our training ground It has given us skills; it has given us strength; it has given us the determination needed in todayas world. And now, fueled with knowledge and ideals; and guided by the conflclence that we are able to meet new challenges; we the members of the Class of 565 are ready to chart our own courses on the horizons of the future. 3'2 SUSAN JEAN ACKERSON Linda 2We1come wheresder she went, a calm and gracious element?! Junior Class The Junior Class of each school year has, perhaps, one of the largest tasks to be accomplished of any in the school, the planning of the Junior-Senior Prom. This highlight of the activities of the entire year takes an endless amount of eHort 0n the part of the class. Money from the dining room candy machines and from various dances throughout the year are the two main sources of finance. Their efforts are never in vain for as the time comes for the From every one who at- tends cannot help but have the best time of the year. The Juniors receive their rings early in the year, reaching still anomer high point in their high school lives. The rings mean a great deal to everyone because of the numerous memories they will some day represent. This yearis Junior class is one of great potential and high ideals with an out- standing record of achievement. The present format, which has drawn the attention and plandits of most readers, has been largely the efforts of the co-edi- tors, Stephanie Freese and Penny Little. Other members of the staff who have performed their duties well are the business manager, Doro- thy Perkins, and circulation manager, Ann Banks. The advisersJ Mrsi Coe and Mr, Johnson, have lent their assistance and advice whenever it was necessary. On the whole, however, the newspaper is primarily published through the concerted ef- forts of the student staff. The present newspaper is published once a month and includes something of interest to the entire student body. Admittedly, a monthly paper will contain some old news, but an attempt has been made to keep the coverage as up-to-date as possible. This year's Mustang Echoes Co-Editors, Stephanie Frees: and Penny Little took over a past issue of the paper. 84 Echoef Division Heads FRONT ROW Eugene Smiley, Features; Lon Elliott, Sports. The league was better balanced and tougher man for man than it has ever been in the past No team in the league went undefeated. The Mustangs were led this year by three exceptional captains: Jeri Balsly, Jeff Pomeroy, and Larry VVynocker. The group of seniors this year were also exceptional in that they all worked together for the common good of the team. Our Record this year Of 34-2, though not as good as hoped for, is not as disappointing as it may seem. Every game was a real fight for victory and no one from our team ever quit. ...v tw FRONT ROW: Bill Thomas, manager; Jim Christy, Kit Kemp, Phil Honsinger, Ht A.
