25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF THE MNEMONIC Madeira High School, Madeira, Ohio 138363 mug WAMW 8 0mm 20 Cbzbsv '58 Spam 86 Featmes 108 M138 EditorFin-Chief Frances Ingold Business Manager . . . Richard Rintamaa Advisor Mrs. Ann Hem Dedimiiow The senior class of nineteen sixty-three commemorates the Twenty-fifth Anniversary ofthe MNEMONIC. Volume I, published in nineteen thirty-eight, was a paper-back issue containing thirty-s ix pages. The MNEMONIC'S growth has corresponded with the growth of our school population. In nineteen thirtydeight, the high-school enrollment was one hundred and twenty -two, with ten faculty members . Today, our enrollment has reached five hundred and seven, with twenty-six faculty members. For twenty-five years the purpose of the MNEMONIC'S staffs has remained stead- fastlythe same--t0 capture the spirit of Madeira High School in a pictorial account of our school life , Because they devoted so much in time and effort for our benefit, we, the senior class of nineteen sixty-three, dedicate our annual to the former editors of the MNEMONIC . DERICKS 13.5. in Ed., University of Cincinnati M,Ed., Xavier University wiggt The span of years in high school has been, is, and, I am sure, will continue to be a very important segment of an individual's life. The last quarter of a century has seen a change in the lives of young Americans. A quarter of a century ago, free public secondary education was available to all, but certainly a much smaller percentage took advantage of it. In the complex society of recent years, a background of a high school education is extremely essential. As technological advancements are acceleratedwith the various stages of automation, places in society for people without high school training are rare. The need for even more than high school is pointed to with great emphasis . In this year of 1963 a good high school education is an essential for all as aprepara- tion for additional study. It is my sincere desire and the fundamental objective of our school that the educational needs of every student have best been fulfilled in the school year 1962-1963. Mr. Dericks Right: Mr. Dericks always enjoys a good game of chess. You are fortunate to be gradu- ating in an anniversary year, a time to stop and commemorate the publication of Madeira's first book of memories. It is my wish that your lives will hold many happy anniversaries from the Latin, ANNUS and VERTERE--the annual return of the date of a memorable occasion. Our lives are a series of milestones; it is very important, when the anniversary day comes once again, to look back, down the road we've walked, to be sure we are following the right path and that this path is taking us where we want to go. Our MNEMONICS through the years have recorded and illustrated the achievements of twenty-five years of sincere effort and attention to educate upon the part of the Madeira community. As you pursue your individual paths in the days to come, will you think of what you can do with your training and educatiou to better the community in which you live and to contribute to the better- ment of society? Then perhaps your life will be a series of happy anniversaries. Mr. Lang MR. FRANK R. Mmmopqeg T0 the seniors the passing of time is like the reading of a good drama. While reading, we are eager to reach the end. Events as they pass form a Swiftly moving plot. But when we have finished, we are sorry we did not tarry longer with each page. Our freshman year is the exposition of par drama, introducing us to many new experienceS-sa new System consisting of new friends, new teachers, and new subjects. The complications grow as we enter our sophomore and junior years. Now familiar with our new way of life,we enter into many school activities--participating in sports activities, makingpreparations for the prom, and choosingclass rings! The Climax Of our drama is our senior year. It is during this year that our final performances are given--ath1etics, Variety Show, and Senior Ciass Play. More important,we spend this year culminating our plans for the future--the tests, the completion of forms, and the interviews for col- lege andemployment. It is on graduation night that our drama is closed, never to be reopened, but like all good dramas, never to be forgotten. 23 NHDGE ANN BAAS DANNIE LEE BAILEY GLORIA LYNN BARTELS mwmwwsomj BARBARA ANN BENHASE NANCY JEAN BOCKMAN VICTOR ALBERT BREEHNE 24- JOHN WILLIAM CARRY LARRY O'NEIL CAZAVAN TOM DONALD CHANEY medumtiow06xft830utk. The 1962 Mustang gridiron season ended another successful year of footbail with five wins and four losses. Outstanding individual performance, as well as team play, left few fans disappointed. Lack of size and experience brought about many errors, but desire, dedication, and a will to Win were never lacking. Many nostalgic memories of the 1962 Mustangs will linger because of our excellent group of seniors . Who can forget the excellent lineplay, blocking and tackling by Dave Perin, Bill Dorsey, Tom Kasee, and Dan Bailey and the booming punts and defensive ability of Don Rehl? Few will ever see any better ball-carrying and broken-field- running than Pep Strifler's. Who will ever witness a better played and harder fought football game than the Mariernont game, which, ironically, we lost? Yes, 1962 added more wonderful pages to Madeira's football history.
