The lessons you have taught can -not be found on the pages of books nor can they be written on a blackboard. You have taught us how to live, play, and work with others. You have shown us the true value of sportsmanship and _ citizenship. You have turned individuals into a team, and a team into a school. You have become a part of us, ’’Doc,”’ —a part that will never slip away. A man of action. You have honored us in many ways. Person to Person. Just a little harder Sue! Play your hunch! Each person who con- tributes then faces the same problem because one wonders what not to say. The result, then, is a book of bridgeheads of memories which unravel in the mind the experiences of the past. | am sure that the representative selections of this book will ac- complish this for each member of Madeira High School. This review of activities of the past is pleasant. | sincerely hope that the review of the past can serve as a stimulation for improvement in the lives of each student. | am particularly hopeful that the experiences at Madeira High School will contribute to the success of our graduating seniors. As their lives and activities separate from the activities of Madeira High School, | hope a happy, active memory takes its place. | hope this pleasant memory will continue to be strong enough so that when the opportunity presents itself, that each member of our graduating class will want to return for a visit. Mr. Dericks addresses the student body. When Your Heart Is In It... Madeira High School in this year 1962 is not only an excellent institution of learning, with beauti- ful classrooms, wide walkways, and a lovely campus green; the words, ‘Madeira High School’’ now con- note many activities and traditions—the Christmas tree in the circle, the trip to Drake Hospital, the games, dances after games, assemblies, the clubs, AFS, prom. Through study, enthusiastic support, the real love for their school and all that it stands for— Madeira students have given MHS a_tradition—a “heart.”’ Mrs. Merritt’s pleasant smile and friendly words re- main among our ‘’Madeira Memories.’’ Assistant Principal Madeice Schools. Ofer Gi Bening Courses Mr. Frank R. Lang B.S. in Ed., University of Cincinnati; M. in Ed., University of Cincinnati. Any College, USA, any Office, USA—will be more than empty buildings without love and en- thusiasm that you take there with you. Wherever you go, whatever you do—you may quickly find those who criticize, misunderstand, tear down—be- cause EVERYBODY can do that; only a FEW can create; only a FEW are able to put love and heart into their work and obligations of daily life to kindle the fires of enthusiasm and accomplishment. Always be able to count yourselves among the few! Frank R. Lang, Assistant Principal Counselor Mr. William Toth serves us well as our Assistant Superintendent of Madeira Schools. Senior Class September, 1958, a new class of fresh- men entered the world of high school. Not only did we enter a new world, but also a new high school. We were looking forward to four long years of learning, fun, and experiences. June, 1962, that same class is looking backward on four short years filled with all that we expected and even more. No one can forget the football and _ basketball games, the dances, the hours of study, the friendships, the inspirations, the tears of joy and sadness, the moments of anxieties, and, yes, even the pangs of disappointment and defeat. Now we must leave behind us this fa- miliar world we have grown to love and face new horizons. We know that because of our four years at Madeira and the edu- cation they have given us, we will be able to face these unknown days bravely and successfully. Think what a joy to use a phone that's scarcely bigger than your hand —that feels light as a feather — with a dial that glows softly, lights up brightly whenever you pick up the receiver. You'll enjoy calls more in your own room on your own Princess phone. And, the monthly charge is so low that you may be able to pay for a Princess extension yourself.
