WGJQLPG MRS. JANET BARKER B S.Ed., Bowling Green State University Tall, good-looking Mrs. Barker is our Physical Education teacher. Attectionf ately reterred to as Barkie, she is advisor ot the GAA and in charge ot cheerleading. She is active in all sports and otten demonstrates to the gals the tiner points ot hockey, basketball, volley- ball, and baseball. She coaches all the girls' interscholastic teams and more otten than not, comes up with a win' ning team. Mrs. Barker is listener and advisor to all who seek her counsel. Thats our Barkiel MR. KENNETH BARKER B.S.Ed., Bowling Green State University Mr. Barker is a very capable and like able Junior t-Iiah teacher and Seventh Grade Co-Advisor. Ken is also As- sistant Coach at the Mustang tootball squad and Hi-Y Advisor. He is popuf lar with the boys ot I-tieY, and is otten seen atter a meeting, streaking down the basketball court along with the tellows. On the football tield, Mr. Bark- er is a great help to the younger boys who are under his guidance. MRS. MARTHA BARRETT B.A., Gberlin College Mrs. Barrett teaches our Latin and English classes, She has done an ex- cellent iob as advisor at the Blue and Gold. She is Co-Advisor ot the June iors. l-ler great interest in Shakespeare and his works shows her to be an expert in this tield and makes her classes most enioyable. Mrs. Barrett has taught in I-lamilton County Schools tor several years, and we are fortunate that she decided to come to Madeira this year. MR. JORDAN BOWERS B.A., Wake Forest College M.M., Cincinnati Conservatory ot Music Mr. Bowers is the head ot our Music Department. l-le has done much to improve the band and chorus this year. Both ot these groups made excellent showings at the Music Festival which was held early in the year. Mr. Bowers willingly undertook the direction ot the operetta, l-t.M.S. PINAFOREQ' which was a huge success. l-le is Co-Advisor ot the Sophomore Class.

slma, MRS. MARY GRIPSHOVER Secretary Mrs. Gripshover is our school's indispensable secretary. Mrs. Grips, as she is called, has many duties other than her secretarial work. Every noon period she is a Lunchroom Cashier. On tre- quent Monday nights she records the business ot the Madeira Board ot Education ot which she is sec- retary. ln her tree time Mrs. Grips loves to play Bingo. Her triendly manner ancl understand- ing ways have made her a tavorite with all ot us at MHS. MR. H. L. DERICKS B.S.Ed., University ot Cincinnati Our Plant Manager is Mr. Dericks - capable principal and well-liked math teacher. Students in his classes know him best tor his ability to seldom get to class on time and his strong dislike lor chewing gum. Mr. Dericks is an ardent sports tan. t-le particularly likes basketball, and he is at home on the MHS court in the annual Faculty-Junior Varsity basketball game. 9

Yes, detinitely, lor who would ever guess that Mrs. Dumont caught a six-pound cattish on her vacation, or that she is interested in acquiring an accurate aim with a ritle? Serving as Co-Advisor ot the Seniors, organizer al the Annual Style Show, and Lunchroom Cashier lceeps our Home Ec teacher quite busy. MR. JAMES DUNN B,A., B.S.Ed., Cedarville College Mr. Dunn is our versatile Eighth Grade CoAAdvisor. He teaches Fresh- man Algebra and all the Junior High math. Mr. Dunn coaches both the June ior High basketball and traclc teams. During Varsity and Junior Varsity bas- lcetball games he can be Iound at the scorer's table talcing care ot the score- board and cloclc. MISS MARILYN ECKERT B.S.Ed., Bowling Green State University Another newcomer to the portals ol MHS is Miss Eclcert. This amiable Spanish and English teacher has become a lriend to all ol us. Those in her speech class gained much helpful advice and experience in the art at public spealcing. Miss Eclcert is Freshmen Co-Advisor, and her counsel is well regarded by all of them. She directed the Senior Class play this year. MRS. FRANCES ELBERTY B.S. Art Ed., Miami University B.A., Cleveland Art Institute Quiet, friendly Mrs. Elberty handles the Art Department. She is ever ready to help us by thinlcing ol catchy art worlc to advertise our dances or by lend- ing us construction paper tor ticlcets! She conducts tield trips and excursions to various art museums and malces Art one of the most interesting classes here. Mrs. Elberty also teaches art in the Madeira Grade School.
